Kaspersky

Its a must (In my opinion). It doesn't matter what your downloading, you can still have problems because of Virus's. AVG is great, same with Panda.

I've used Kaspersky, and hands down its the best paid application. However, AVG Free is still really good.

If you want to pay, and looking for a firewall/malware/antivirus combo, Kaspersky is the one for you.

Agree with everything Existence said, Kaspersky is one of the few (if only) Security suites ACTUALLY worth buying...

However, i must disagree about the AVG free, that software is utter crap (no offense) it has had 2two major issues within a one year span... The user32.dll issue (deleting of a windows essential file) and deleting Adobe reader for no apparent reason if i am not mistaken, not to mention if you "download" software via torrents (yes that evil deed) avg goes berserk and deletes a bunch of files that are completely harmless, just an extremely annoying bit of software.

And i HAVE used AVG free, so no one say "you've never used it blah blah"

Currently using Eset Smart Security and loving it.

IVe used both Kaspersky and AVG, and Kaspersky is the highest rated Antivirus on the market.. ide go with the one that costs 30 bucks and gets the job done RIGHT ;)
AVG misses alot of stuff

used both Kaspersky and AVG, and without meaning to offend anyone, they stink.. AVG in particular, the only reason people think it's good is that it blocks anything that look even remotely suspicious, good luck trying to get torrents past AVG, not a very pleasant business.. Kaspersky is good as for as AV goes, but that is only if u have it constantly updating, if a new breed of intelligent viruses hits your PC, you're fried.. If you want the best of the best and u don't want it free, I'd recommend ESET SmartSuite, it is THE BEST antivirus software out there, nothing, and i mean NOTHING with bad intentions gets past NOD32, brilliant heuristics, incredible way of handling malware; couple it with the antispyware capabilities of SmartSuite and you're safe from harm! and if it is not allowing something you know with 100% surety is safe, getting it over NOD is a simple matter of a few mouseclicks. Highly recommended software!

I would pay 30 bucks just for the Kaspersky firefall. Best consumer software firewall out there. Not only does it filter EVERYTHING(and I mean EVERYTHING) it is fully programmable. If you want block a certain program, bam. If you only wanna lock down one port, bam. If you only wanna prevent UDP traffic from passing throught port 31337, bam! The best part is that any program that it doesn't have any prior knowledge of (and I mean ANY program) and blocks it and prompts you for action. During the first week or so it is a major pain in the ass. But after you get it dialed in, it is a piece of software I could never live without.

that's why i prefer ESET products, they can really distinguish which are potentially harmful programs and stop those, so you get the same or even better protection without even the hint of bother abt setting up your AV software, it is truly an "install and forget" program!
