My in-depth analysis of the new scout unlocks.

great analysis phoenix, i dont really use double jump a lot as it is so i wont miss it. I tend to take the water, teles and the bridge as a scout. When i go over the bridge i never fail to get sniped or demoed.

I cant stand the sandman. its so cheap. you can stun a heavy when he is ubered but you cant stun another scout when in bonk? That to me is not fair. Now ubers will be pointless as long as a scout is around, making some things, like dustbowl, even harder to win... it just throws off all gameplay and in my opinion, needs to be removed.

I like this thread, because Pheonix said something else besiades "This is awesome" or "This one sucks". So I am content.

Quite frankly, it's impossible to put this update into simple terms. FAN's good, but only if you're using Sandman. They go hand in hand, really. Bonk will almost always suck unless you need a sentry to go down. It's nice for escapes, but you lose all of your long range attacking. This update made the Scout up close and personal.

Could somebody iterate the difference between a quickstab and a backstab?
Not the speed, but I thought they were one and the same... :?

I've seen in plenty of videos that 2 FAN hits is NOT instant death for heavy. Sorry if someone else mentioned this, but your own math supports it. 200-ish damage from 2 point blank FAN shots, heavy is 300 base, sooooo you do the math.

Some video evidence: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZRKdCIO16o[/ame]

You can see the glory round start in some of those examples, and the guy shoots a heavy twice with the FAN (TWO CRITS!) and he doesn't die. Admittedly they aren't always point blank, but don't get overconfident with heavies. Granted, with the stun from the baseball hit, they have to re-rev their gun up and you have time to reload and start shooting two more shots at them by the time they're able to start hitting you, and you can circle strafe and do all sorts of stuff to avoid that, so you're still lookin' pretty good.

But yeah, main point: 2 FAN shots won't down a fatty.

Quickstabs don't happen now. Before, because of how long the backstab animation is, they'd miss. Quickstabs were when you attack early so you still land a hit on the back, but you don't trigger the animation, so it's still a fast kill.

Now, they don't matter, because stabs are so fast. <3

Two FAN hits at point blank will do about 200 damage, yes. Bat the crap out of the Heavy and hope you kill him first. Or just retreat, and kill him when he runs for health. Scout is not Rambo.

The effects are kind of amplified with so many scouts. Once things die down a bit then we can evaluate it for fact, for now though, yeah scouts are extremely annoying. What they gained overall in this update.... control

A lot of people aren't used to having to deal with someone that can control the fight, and still move so fast.

I stood in Blackmesa's vents for ten minutes repeatedly stunning the same heavy until he died. Took about 18 stuns.

Then he ragequit.

Like I said, you're still looking pretty good as far as getting the kill goes. But I just wanted to clarify that you can't ambush a fatty with two shots and then be surprised when he turns around and KGB's you out of nowhere, heh.
