OoOoOo new computer!!!!

Ello eGO friends, Gitnerd here. And i have exciting news. For the first time in a very very long time... i have; DISPOSABLE INCOME

haha. around $2,000 of it O.O

long story how i got it. but just to keep it short i had a death in the family but i didn't know the person but he was shortly related to my mother. and she sent me some money...

ANYWAY.... i need a new computer badly i currently have two. a Dell Inspiron 1501 that i use for school and other random things. some low grade games. (i upgraded this laptop to 3GB of ram instead of the stock 1GB so it can run most low end games)

and i have a Gateway that for runs really well. the Graphic card in it is stock and the ram is only around 2GB and it runs xp. but i can run World of warcraft, counter strike, half life, and many many many other 3d applications without any lag or anything at all. its an excellent computer.

so i have a question... should i buy a new laptop? or a new desktop? cuz my laptop kinda sucks but i dont use it much. and my desktop is fairly decent and i use it alot

by the way im always going over to places and everywhere and when i say i dont use my laptop alot i mean for gaming. i use it all the time. but i wana get a laptop capable of "gaming on the go"

so the question remains... 2 grand towards a new desktop or laptop???

well it depends on your application. are you always on the go? do you only game when at home blah blah. i personally never saw why people would want to game on a laptop while at home, im just a desktop type of guy.
tho depending exactly what your desktop is, you say its a good computer...well you could just spend some of that money towards upgrading it (its very easy to work computer parts, and find guides online etc) and still have lots leftover for other fun stuff.
or if you want a completely new computer, reuse parts from your old one, and buy the rest, and build it yourself or with somebodies help etc...its super fun and a lot less expensive than buying a desktop from futureshop or something. visit the tech talk forum!

why not get both..... 2 grand should easily get you both, as long as you dont get all the useless gimicky stuff that's worthless and costs and arm and a leg like the $200 cases that are worth $1.75, and all the high tech coolers that dont do much of nothing except raise your electric bill.... you should be able to buy or build a good desktop for less than 1k, and right now the market is in the crapper so you should be able to pick up a good laptop for less than 1k. i am playing on a laptop that i got for about 600 right now and runs just about any game I want with 4 gigs of ram and 220 gig hard drive.... you can do it easily to get both of them for the amount you want to spend, just dont go and do stupid things like buy expensive parts that are the same equivilent of cheaper ones or buy from online retailers that offer you all these nifty extras that aren't worth a dime.... nothing annoys me more than seeing people waste good alot of good money on things like cheap plastic cases that aren't worth a quarter and a good sturdy cheap desktop case can do the same thing for them.... or spending hundreds on cooling systems and overclocking their comps for lil to no difference than not doing it.... just my personal take from the 15 years of IT work....

you can get a more powerfull desktop for the money than a laptop.
so the only issue is, how badly do you want to travel and play games?

of course, if ur back is strong enough u dont have to choose, just strap the desktop to your back add a car battery and hook the monitor to your chest. then play away.

I have a "gaming on the go" laptop.

I like it, it's an HP. With 2 grand you could get an amazing laptop. I bought mine for 1500 2 years ago, now the same version is available for about 1000, just think what you could get for 2000.
