(i thought this could be useful to someone, i also have nothing else to do so.)

this tutorial will teach how to make your Zune a portable hard drive

they are ten, not so easy steps but i made it easy to understand just in case!

Pre-Warning: I have tried this on a Zune and it has not broken, but in the event that something bad should happen and your Zune, computer, or any other electronics break then it is your fault, but as i said i've tried this and i had no problems.

To get started:

1. Make sure your Zune is unplugged, and your zune software closed.

2. Go to RegEdit, to do this for both vista and xp press: Windows Key + R

3: In the RegEdit window, at the top press edit, click Find, type "EnableLegacySupport" in the textbox then press Find Next, if the directory it directed you to is something like "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\*ControlSet001*\Enum\USB\**VID_045E&PID_0710**\***b80294cf-e48d- (etc.)".
*the entry ControlSet001 could be ControlSet002 or ControlSet003 or even CurrentControlSet.
**this number varies depending on your zune, but this is what it was for me. Whatever this number is for you write it down on a piece of paper, you'll need it later.
***this number varies depending on your zune, but this is what it was for me.

4. To make sure that youve found the right spot, in the directory click the expand icon next to Device Parameters, if you see the word Zune in there youve found the right Directory, if you do not see this, go to the top and press edit but instead press find next and repeat step 3. and make sure your in the right folder.

5. Next, click on the text or folder of Device Parameters( not the expand button), double check that the zune software is off and your zune is unplugged, then on the right side there should be some entries, double click on EnableLegacySupport and change the value to 1, double click PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludedFromShell and change the value to 0, then double click ShowInShell and change the value to 1.

6. Heres the annoying part, go to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM", in this directory, there should be three or four directories that have the word Control in them, in every directory that has the word control, go to the USB Directory it may look almost exactly like the one in step 5. , take that number i told you to right down and look for the directory that has matching combination of number and letters, then expand the next directory and inside it should look like the one you were in earlier, it probably is, but to make sure repeat step 5. and check the entries.

7. If the entries are already changed then go to step 6. and go to the next directory that has the word control in it, if these numbers arent changed then go back to step 6. and change them to what they need to be. repeat this step untill you've been trough all the directories that have control in there name.

8. Once finished, close Regedit, plug in your zune, then go to my computer, your zune should show up know, if you see two then thats alright, if you see nothing then you might off missed a step, if you missed a step or just want to give up, your zune should still connect to the zune software so don't worry.

9. To copy files too off the zune, open the zune software, transfer a file a big file or movie to your zune then while its copying open task manager, under processes click zune.exe, then at the bottom press end process, then click yes.

10. Go to my computer and open your zune, and try to copy somthing, it should not give you an error, if you were in the middle of copying a video when closing the zune software go to the video folder of the zune and delete the movie.

And then you're done!

if you have any questions pm me and i will answer them if i can.

heres a pic of what it should look like in my computer:
