Computer Freezing During Chkdsk

computer freezes after third stage of chkdsk after it says security descriptor verification completed...any ideas?

Do you know if it is overheating? That's what I can suggest.
The hard drive could also be dieing if it's that severe.

Run a diagnostic utility downloaded from the drive mftr.'s website. Run that and see what it tells you.

What operating system is it? How old is your PC? Have you used a tool like "Ulimate Boot CD" to try and scan the disk for hardware errors? http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

yeah - if chkdsk is failing that badly it might be a bad thing.

use another computer to make a bootable CD with some diagnostics. also i'd download and run Memtest to make sure you're not having memory issues. however, even without knowing anything of your situation i'd guess your HD is failing/has already failed.

we'll need some more specifics to help you much more. computer specs (including OS) and whatever problems you were having previously.
