i played source today, and its sweet. Much better then the one day i played it when it first arrived

DuDe, Source stank up the place until June 28th 2006 when they did a major major major update. Prior to two weeks ago source was a failure. Now it has killed off classic. Amazing to me.

Go to options and turn all the effects off or down to their lowest settings

Social was it the gray screen you see before it starts or was it fuzzy after it started ? You can turn the gray affect off under advanced in options it just will not stay off. You have to do it each time you join source.
