ok well the problem is my microphone. As some people might know, when i try to speak in-game (DOD) or on ventrilo i sound like a terminator who has ruined his vocal cords from toooo much smoking. It sounds like theres a lot of background noises, even though i am in my room with the the door closed. i cant seem to find anything wrong with it, there are no system failures or anything. i did find something when i went on steam/settings where i tested my mic. On that green-yellow-red bar, the light was on red (bad). i then tried unplugging my mic and it still received a lot of noises. so my mic cant be the problem.

Please help me, i wanna be able to say things in-game and on ventrilo.

Cheers, Krillerzx

Sounds like its amplified or something. Go to the little volume symbol on your bar at the bottom,
right-click->recording devices->speak, which one goes green?->right-click on that one->properties-> LEVELS tab-> is microphone boost uber high or anything?

Is your mic newish, good quality or rather old?

If you're maxing out your mic that is why it sounds so awful.

If what Haze suggested helps but doesn't fix the problem move it away from your mouth a bit.

It can and will, especially if boosted, pick up micronoise from your mouth including breathing.

Seeing as it's picking up lots of noise when your microphone is unplugged you might have an issue with inteference.

Are any power cables, phone lines or any other significant things running near either you microphone or it's cable?

ok, well my microphone is a bit old, like 1 year. i did what you said Haze and the green bar is on the third even when unplugged. the boost thing is on 0 and the volume is on 76.

blooming, i have also tried moving moving the mic further away from my mouth and i can barely hear myself on the test thing.

and hitman, well i have my logitech speakers next to my laptop. i also have my stereo and my cell phone some times. there are a lot of power cables under the desk for the lamps, speaker, stereo and laptop.

i just unplugged the stereo and nothing has changed with the green bar.

Are you comfortable enough to pop open your PC and check the cables going to that port?

Sounds like it might be loose somewhere and you might just need to re-seat it.

Imagine plugging a cable into a guitar but you drop the end and it hits the floor... the amp sends out "noise".

Maybe it's like that?

Are your computer ports clean? They might be dusty and when you plug your jack in (if your using one) twist it and talk at the same time, the poles may not be touching. I think their called poles lol. But if you get me, try it.

ok well i tried to open up laptop....... but it is a laptop and their pretty complicated, tooo complicated for me. there were three things where i could take the cover off, one of them was to see the motherboard and some other stuff and i dont know the 2 others. but they werent where the mic plug-in is. i dont really wanna do it again cause im a noob at pc interior.

i tried the spinning and im afraid that it too was a negative. i tried blowing into the hole and then did the test again without any success.

so i think that it could be the wire inside the laptop, going to the mic plug-in. is there anything else i could try or is my only chance, trying to find a technician who could fix it?

oh and btw guy, i thank you a lot for helping me out!

I didn't realize you were on a laptop, sorry Kriller.

I wouldn't normally suggest someone try to take apart their laptop!

I'm not sure what else you could try, sorry :(

The really unfortunate part is that if you take it to a store they'll charge you a lot of money for what it probably a little amount of work.

You could buy a USB Headset instead and avoid that jack altogether... probably save yourself money versus getting that port repaired.

hmm yea but even when its unplugged its on 3 bars so wouldnt it do that even with a usb? (its probably a stupid question nvm) but ok ill think about doin that after i buy the ray ban 3025 ;)

I have the same problem with my mic, background noises are amplified whereas your voice (being close to the microphone) overloads it and produces a loud static noise. I've noticed that when I start steam and TF2 before I open Ventrillo or TeamSpeak clients which I frequently use the mic works fine. Sometimes I get luck and they both work regardless of the order I open them.

Best idea I have is the voip client forces TF2 to recognize you mic as a stereo array microphone versus a headset microphone. Try opening TF before you open anything else that uses the mic. Good luck to you.
