Well, it is happening. There is a field in computer science for quantum computing already. And going it is not going to happen because someone said this is not the way to go. We are not quantum physicist, nor is the guy in the article, so i would abstain from saying what needs to happen.
We do not have a working quantum computer simply because the components have not been invented. With further research and theory that will occur. It is simply a matter of time. just like a transistor was invented, so will the logical gate apparatus needed to control the qubits be invented eventually.
