Lawsuit: Activision Created Modern Warfare "Police State"

if people keep boycotting activision then the good developers will suffer

like treyarch i want more of the good CoD games

ifinity ward did alright on the modern warfare games

but that was only because of the multiplayer

you guys remember back when you were playing the old CoD games on your ps2s and xboxs?

and during the campaign mode when one of the main characters died

you actually cared?

that was because treyarch writers were so good that you felt you were actually in the story

closest infinity ward ever came to making me have a similar feeling to that was when ghost got shot then lit up

when developers hand off a series of games known for having an excellent story in the campaign to another developer

who then take the series and center all of the new games around multiplayer
then throw in a campaign mode as an after thought
i think a little piece of my gamer soul dies

Treyarch only developed CoD 3 and World at War.

Infinity Ward developed CoD 1, 2, 4, and MW:2.

I generally dislike WaW, but CoD 3 was hands down the worst $50 I'd ever spent. I hope that's not the one you're talking about.

Also, I think Infinity Ward does a fine job with its writing. The campaign for both MW1 and 2 are spectacular on the non-gameplay fronts.

The problem between Infinity Ward and Activision was that the Modern Warfare series made too much money. We're talking about a games that were reaching in the billion dollar mark. With both the Infinity Ward and Treyarch, Activision could crank out a CoD game every year and they were raking in the cash because of that set up.

Activision got greedy, promised the guys at Infinity Ward a lot of money and then held it until they released MW 3 in 2011. Basically holding nearly $300 million ransom. When West and Zampella left the company, Activision went full on crazy, denying that the was a massive bonus coming to Infinity Ward employees and basically locking the company down under tight control.

Seeing that West and Zampella were basically the brains behind the CoD and MW series, not the mention MoH:AA, Infinity Ward is pretty much handicapped at this point. It's doubtful that MW 3 will come out in 2011 and it appears that Treyarch is going to be the heavy lifter for the CoD series for some time to come. Frankly I can't wait to see what Respawn Entertainment is going to come out with.

Once again, Activision fails to be looked upon by some(many?) in a good way.

While I do like CoD:WaW and I've never played CoD3, I can agree with the factual part of Cupcake's statement.
Infinity Ward made CoDs 1, 2, 4, and MW2.

This ^^^

The idea that a franchise has to release a new entry every year is nuts. Release a new entry when you really have something new to add, not just new maps/updates. The madden franchise is the worst; every year, they could release roster/player updates, but instead make people re-buy the game to get this. Yes, they add a few tweeks and visual panache, but it's basically the same game.

My guess is that CoD will die, the guys who left IW to make their own firm will start up a new FPS franchise very similar to MW, it will do well, it will get picked up by a major developer, and the whole thing will start all over again.

I just wanted to inform people about the latest w/ this issue, but I just seemed to start another bashing, just on a different subject. Please lock this thread before the subject gets any more heated.

This is getting ridiculous, I have a dislike for Bobby C***tick already after he butchered One Piece but now this. Even since he became CEO Activision hasn't released anything original. All they have is Call Of Duty and _____ Hero and some trademark games.

I hope Respawn Entertainment wins this lawsuit

Oy, let's just focus on how this lawsuit could be either good or bad, and not get into a war over what's good, what's bad, and what doesn't matter about Activision, IW, and Treyarch.

Despite all the bashing, CoD wasn't that bad. Sure, it wasn't like hardcore gaming like us PC gamers are used to, but you have to realize it brought FPS multi player to tons of people, even if the game itself was of questionable quality. This police state thing, however, is crazy. No one should have to undergo that in the course of doing their job.

A voice of reason right here.
