New physics simulator

This puts Havok to shame....
Think of the implications if this were attached to a game. Assuming of course that the computer could handle all that info.

Well the new simulator looks better, but we have simulators that are much more advanced than this. We model extremely complex situations on computers. Nuclear testing has been replaced by a simulator, and the equations involved in testing new nuclear weapons are extremely complex. The number of forces and particles involved require days and weeks of calculations to put out a solution, on a supercomputer.

Most things put in a simulator relate to aerodynamic design, geophysics, fluid mechanics, nuclear physics, cosmology, etc., as those are open subjects and we try to find better solutions. I don't think they tried to make an advanced simulator for simple interactions, they are mainly needed for the film and gaming industry.

Im sure they could use that engine in games, just have to either optimize the game for the engine or ater the engine down a bit to better run for a game.

But...can it run Crysis?

Anywhoozles, I'm more curious if it will get picked up. I can see Nvidia using this to push Fermi with investors but that's it.

I saw this earlier.
I had multiple nerdgasms.
This puts PhysX to shame, which is a lot better than Havok.
But it needs to be made to use CUDA and Stream Processors, otherwise it will be one company only, which means it will be used in <1% of all games.
But for this really to take off, it needs to be able to run on consoles, which means new consoles have to come out.
But that won't happen for a while.
Sometimes this whole advancement of gaming technology is frustrating. Damn consoles. :glare:
