Transparent background.

Can someone please help me make this picture transparent?

I tried to make it transparent with gimp but I couldn't do it, please help.

I want the guy and part of the background (the blue part). Any white in the picture should be removed.

best your getting, but his hat is kinda screwy since i cant draw a straight line, or color inside the lines very well.
