In 2005 the Fire Arms team announced that Firearms would no longer be developed. In the announcement the team stated that they where going to move on to create World at War for the Source engine. Some fans of FA protested the move, and requested that they be allowed to develop a sequel to FA, however the FA team remained adamant that World at War be the only successor. A few months after the announcement, some disgruntled fans including a forum moderator locked the FA team out of their forums and web servers which contained all the source material for FA. After hijacking the servers, the fans announced that Firearms had never lived up to its potential[4], and that they would be developing Firearms 2 for the source engine. The original FA team fought the action, but failed[5]. Firearms 2 has now ceased to be developed.
In 2005 Firearms: Revival began development for the Source engine. After discussion with the original FA team, the FA team lent their support to this successor on the condition that the name be changed to Fireteam: Incursion . Later in 2006 the development of Firearms: Source was announced with the blessing of the original FA team. The Fireteam: Incursion and the Firearms: Source team combined forces in 2007 to develop Firearms: Source[6].
