help my friend?

Well i talked my friend into building his own computer but im not that great at showing him what to do. This is his first time building a computer so he has no idea what to do so if you could suggest a case and parts that will work with it that would be great. He wants to spend $500 or less

First, What would he use it for? gaming, surf the web, school stuff?
Second, He just needs the tower or the $500 budget includes display and peripherals? Hope not!

With so little budget and already has a $140 case in mind, this wont be to easy.

He wants it for gaming and he says he can live with a diff case he just doesn't want it to look bad xD he says he has a monitor http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...37&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=459838&lang=en# and he says if he needs more money he can wait till he gets more. The $500 is also for fans and CPU, GPU and stuff.
