Assistance on PC Upgrade

I am looking into upgrading my stock PC I that I bought a few years ago. I opened up the case and there is plenty of room, but I fore see problems upgrading.

I am interested in a new ATI graphics card (or NVIDEA, but I heard there might be issues since I currently have an ATI card? Please enlighten me because I would like a NVIDEA more) and I also need a new power supply as mine is only 300W and I would need much more power.

I installed PC Wizard 2010 and I am now able to view the complete specifications of my computer and I think their will be comparability issues with my motherboard.

The board is an ACER G33T-AM, it has PCI Express, but it is Version 1.0 so right off the bat there might be an issue with that. And where do I start with the compatibility of power supplies?

Help would be much appreciated, thanks.

The compatibility of powersupplys doesn't matter, all that matters is that it will fit in your case. You should go at least a 600~650w powersupply.

You won't have any problems with switching to NVIDIA, it doesn't matter what card you have it won't interfere with the other. Each brand has their own card for a certain price range that's the best.

The PCI-E 1.0 shouldn't be much of a problem at all either, again since it's a stock case I hope it's not a mini tower because your going to have a problem with some larger cards.

Can we get a price range for both the powersupply and video card and we'll go from there? Oh, also you should post the model of the stock pc so we can check if you have a mini tower or not.

It'd be better to just build a new one, but you can salvage parts from your current build.

For the size of the power supply - I was able to find the exact one using the product number, here are the details.

And here is the current PC that I have.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4088183&CatId=2627

It's a full case so I have plenty of room to work with, I can even just tell from looking at how empty my case is.

I am also looking to upgrade a bit of RAM. I currently have 4 slots, 3 are filled up with three 1GB sticks. Would it be compatible to add a 2GB stick to that last slot or do I have to keep them all even?

As for the Power Supply and NVIDEA graphics card I am looking to spend under $200 for both. I am looking for warranties on both also.

EDIT: I would build a new one, but I only have 200 dollars to spend, and even if I salvage the case and the CPU I'll be looking at 300 dollars minimum and since I like shiny things you can expect I'd be spending over 400.

Hm,
you could get a GTX 460 and a new PSU for it, that'd be roughly $300, and then you could buy a 2x2GB kit of RAM to replace the 3GB you have.

Powersupply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371015

Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2873&cm_re=Radeon_5770-_-14-102-873-_-Product

Total price is like 30$ over, if thats ok.

Also, Phobus why should he do a total upgrade? He already has a 2.4 quad, the same one I'm using but mines OC'd.

I could add a much better video card that would last a lot longer but the price would be around 300$. You'd be much happier with it.

Second option for video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130568

Is there any good graphics cards between the 100-150 dollar range? I saw a couple of EVGA cards going for 120 with mail in rebate.

I was comparing the GeForce 9800 with another card. The 9800 had a higher clock speed, but the other one had 1GB memory compared to 512MB. Which would be better?

The 5770 will beat any 9800, except the GX2 which is not worth it. 9800 is somewhat old too.

So for $150, the 5770 would be the best bet.

Well, I'd get this one myself

http://ncix.com/products/?sku=44932&vpn=HD577AZNFC&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1048

Same price, it's on sale for 179.99$, but it's reference, so it has MUCH better OC, and it's modder friendly with a Double lifetime warranty :D
If I buy this card from this website I can get a 550W power supply for 44 dollars which has a 1 year warranty and I also get the card with a double lifetime warranty which is a great deal.

I can get both items for $214 which I think is a good deal. What do yall think?

Go for it, I'd prefer a better power supply but since your strapped for cash it's a good deal.

What PSU is it.

If it is some generic crap PSU, DO NOT WANT!!!!!!. If it is a corsiar, antec, seasonic, xfx, or other good brand, then by all means, buy it.

(wow that was alot of commas.)

So I think I'm going with this card -

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150462

But I still need help with a power supply.

EDIT:

http://ncix.com/products/?sku=44932&vpn=HD577AZNFC&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1048
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=37325

If I got with the power supply posted above and the graphics card on NCIX I can get both for $248 dollars which includes shipping and no tax.

My challenge to anyone who may be reading this is to find a a power supply with this card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150462 on NewEgg for less then $248 dollars.
