Looking to buy a new video card

Hi guys!

Well, I was playing some new(ish) games on this Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 512 MB (PCIe version) and I realized I could no longer play 1080p anymore without it dropping below to 60fps (I can barely get 60 with 720p with new games like MW2 and L4D2)...so I think it's time to kiss the card goodbye and get a new one.

My price range is around $100-200 (the cheaper the better, because I need to get a new PSU as well). Basically I'm just looking for a decent card that can play popular new games (Bad Company 2, Fallout, Modern Warfare 2, Resident Evil 5, Assassin's Creed) in 1080p with high settings and at least a little bit more than 60fps. I have no preference over chip manufacturer as long as it's a good card. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

A 5770 could do all of that, except BC2. Do realise that BC2 is extremely demanding, and most set-ups can't get 60fps @ 1080p @ max settings.
But I would recommend a GTX 460 over the 5770, as it's just a little more, but so much better.

Yeah, my bad. I always thought BC2 wasn't so demanding, so you can scratch it off the list. (I wasn't primarily planning on getting it anyways)

The GTX 460 is too pricey for me, sadly. I was looking at the 5770. Looks pretty good. I think I'll settle for that, and it should still be a good upgrade over my 3850.

A 5770 and BC2 don't like each other very much. But, it'll be a huge increase from your current card.

Edit: Just for reference, I have a GTX 275 (which is pretty close to a 460) and it gets around 50-60fps average on BC2 at 1920x1080. So, you should still be pretty good with the 5770.

The $200 version is at the top of your budget.
If $200 is too much to spend, then don't say your budget is $100-$200.

I was referring to the $230 one I was linked to. I can definitely consider getting the $200 one (the one singular point linked me to).

The 30$ extra gets you to 1gb VRAM, which will help a lot more in 1080p gaming compared to the 200$ 768mb vram, but the 200$ one will still outperform the hell out of the 5770.

the 1GB version also has a 256bit memory bus.

the 1GB GTX 460 is worth the extra $$

Have you actually seen benchmarks?
The 1GB version gets AT THE MOST 4 more fps in the most demanding of games, at 1080p.

Meh, I've seem some games like L4d2 benefit a lot from it, like 12 fps more. I just like going for the best option, especially since it's 30$. But I guess 200$ is pretty much his limit so he should definitely go for the 768mb version, like you said it will still preform extremely well. The 30$ version I linked also had a much better cooler, and was already OC'd. So the Vram wasn't the only reason I linked it.
