A prank call (also known as crank call and phony call) is a form of practical joke committed over the telephone.

Calling someone telling their sister has been injured in a car accident and telling them to go hospital to check her out. And when they do, you let them go believing that something fatal has been happend..? I just don't see how thease are "awesome" practical jokes. That's just terrible and unamusing, to say the least.
