The Spy is one of the hardest class to master; you have low health and your only weapon is stealth. Dont sound good, huh?
I'm gonna share some of my playing tatics in this thread
First ill start with cloacks

1.Cloaks
I recommand using the cloack and dagger. Wait!! but the energy goes down too fast when I move, what now? Easy. Just crouch; Crouch walking may sound like a dumb idea, but actually it saves alot of energy, when an enemy comes running into you, you will have enough energy to stand up and run to get out of his way.

2.Avoid dominated players
Most of the players will become a crazed spy hunter if they are dominated by a spy, so avoid them and go backstab other players, and eventually... the crazed spy hunters will let their guards down and you can go back to backstabbing em again :)

3.Revolver
The revolver is one of the most powerful weapons in TF2, it does 60 damage each shot if used up close.
*Your a spy and your going to backstab an engie, then the engie suddenly turns around and your backstab missed; now the engie knows your here, what are you going to do? Many players will choose to go crazy and start stabbing wildly. But REMEMBER, you have a revolver!!!! take it out and give the engie 2 or 3 shots and his dead.

4.Disguise
Do NOT disguise as the same class over and over again, or you will be spotted easily.
You want to be disguised so you can blend in, but its hard to blend in while your in a crowded area(frontlines) because you will easily run into enemy player which will break your disguise, so its best you disguise as classes that dont fight on the frontlines(Sniper, Engineer). But however, if the enemy team is moving up and there is no gunfights(Bridge on 2fort) then you can disguese as an offensive class and follow the enemy team.

classes you should NEVER disguised as:
Medic: The heavy looks at you, you refuse to heal him, well then... you die.
Scout: You move way too slow as a scout, can be spotted easily.
Pyro: If a pyro comes up to you and just stares at you... you know its a spy.

5.Don't sap everything!
You dont have to sap every single engineer building you see, only sap the ones that are stopping your team to advance; sapping every building you see is very dangerous as the engineer will alert their team of your presence.

6.Spy is a solo class
Having a teammate around you while your trying to blend in can get you killed.
Medics are bad companions, if your disguised and a medic is healing you, you will get caught and eventually be destroyed.. Having teammates around can blow your cover easily because the players on the enemy team will be thinking why your not attacking, and then they will figure out your a spy.

7.Walking backwards
Walking backwards can help you blend in easily, but they can also blow your cover easily if you bump into an enemy player.
*If you came running through a door, a smart player will figure out your a spy, but if you came running backwards, then they will just think you were shooting at the other team and running back for cover*

8.You're not Superman
You cannot dodge bullets!!!!!
Stay out of enemy fire and do not try to run in cloaked in a gunfight, you are bound to get hit by a bullet and they will know of your presence.

There you go, thats my playstyle and hope this helps ;)

Or dead ringer run by entire enemy team ! :D

but I think the most useful tip here is not disguising as pyro or scout and also not losing your cool when an enemy turns around as you're about to backstab them. :D

Decent basic guide like others out there, hard really to make one for veteran spies. I would add a couple things to learning how to play spy.
1. If your turning a corner and see your teammates running, best to do the same.
2. If your running down a hallway and see flames coming from the other side "think horses not zebras". Basically this means dont ponder if its a teammate or not, its a pyro and just run.
3. Learn the lay of the land, Keep in mind where all the med packs and ammo packs are depending on of your a DR spy or C&D spy these will help you alot since you dont have a medic around you all the time.
4. Learn shortcuts to all maps, most can be found in a very old thread I made here. SHORT CUT THREAD

Meh, DR makes it too easy. Especially on blackmesa. I'm the worst spy on the planet and even I can rack up decent runs with dead ringer. The best part about the DR is the worse of a spy you are, the better it is for you!

idk my two cents on spy i find going as scout is actually effective ONLY when hiding and waiting i rarely get spotted when I'm a scout and kinda waiting for someone but when running around digested it will get you killed

i have to disagree with always working solo

some of the best times to back stab is when the enemies are pre occupied with one of your teammates.

2.Avoid dominated players
Most of the players will become a crazed spy hunter if they are dominated by a spy, so avoid them and go backstab other players, and eventually... the crazed spy hunters will let their guards down and you can go back to backstabbing em again :)

I don't agree, most players won't even wait to be dominated by a spy to hunt them down (and won't stop till they kill you).

I think a pyro disguise works in some cases such as when in water where primary does not fire (some people as pyro don't think to pull out alt weapon I noticed) and also when expecting to be sighted in the distance. But seeing spy as scouts especially over and over is just silly makes me think right away Dead Ringer spy. And as for the dominated you got a good point but I thrive on the players paranoia I may be cloaked and hidden somewhere in a somewhat decent spot I will make my presence known by shouting spy or something at them maybe or something like that and watch them flail around wildly :p My favorite class to do that to is snipers because they got tunnel vision at least when attacking and while they look they are distracted (works good on Black Mesa). Of course sometimes this back fires on me ;p

I've played spy for over 300 hours and I have to say that this guide will def. help those who are new to the class. Good work ^_^
