More Ram?!

Well here's the idea, I was hoping to update my ram and then was going to install a fresh copy of 64 bit copy of windows

Right now i have 2GB of ram DDR2.

I was wondering should i just get 2 more 2GB DDR2 ram

or update to DDR3, Would i see much more if i did upgrade to DDR3 with same amount that i plan to get with DDR2?

Thank you!

What do you plan on doing with your computer?
If you upgraded to DDR3, you'd need a new motherboard, and probably a new processor, too.

I say you just upgrade to 4 gigs of DDR2 ram. The small performance boost you'll get out of using DDR3 imo doesn't warrant its price.

Your present MOBO doesn't support DDR3. Another two gigs of RAM will speed you up...how much is determined where in your system your bottlenecks lie.

That being said, you can't go wrong with more RAM.

It would be a hell of a lot cheaper to just go out and get more DDR2 RAM. Like the others above have posted, the money it would cost you to get the computer parts necessary wouldn't be worth just getting the DDR3 RAM unless you plan on doing a big upgrade.

be aware that if you get 2 more gigs of ram (for your current setup), they have to be the same as the ones currently in your system (Model numbers need to match). You could take your chances with mixing ram, but more than likely you will hit some compatibility issues and your computer will randomly BSOD.

That is not true at all.
I have a dual channel kit of some OCZ SLI Edition and another dual channel kit of Corsair XMS2.
It doesn't matter what model.

yea, as long as the speed of the RAM and series(DDR,DDR2 etc) matches.. you can mix and match brands all day long.

Glad to hear it works for you (thanks for the data points, guys)! Its still not my recommendation, though... The mobo will probably underclock the faster ram to the slower ram speed (bandwidth and timing) and there is a strong possibility that the ram will be more diffucult to tweak/OC (ram is rated differently, reccommends different voltages, etc). OC'n may not be that important to everyone (Ill tweak machine till they start smoking :p), but its somthing to note.

I am also an overclocker, but not for my CPU (as of right now), this motherboard sucks at it.
But I did just flash the BIOS on my 470 to those of a 480, so I can up the voltage to 1.213 instead of 1.087, so I'm currently sitting at 775 core and 950 mem. I think I got a bad card, though. Lots people were able to hit 800 at 1.087v, but mine has stability issues at 780 core @ 1.213v

E/ Also, this guy is PhotoShopping and the likes. I doubt he'll be overclocking.

Yeah as he said, I'm not smart enough to overclock and those things confuse me, I just put the stuff in and use it that way.

Also, my ram speeds supported on my motherboard is DDR2 1066*/800/667
