Hi, I'm Kariak (Akheron is my SC2 name) and I'm just getting into Starcraft 2 and I've never really played an rts before. I definitely want to get better but I really could use some ones help! I've been watching videos and trying to learn build orders and such but its not enough I really think I just need another person's hel,p some one who has a lot more expertise then me. Anyways if your willing to give me a helping had just let me know you can add me on steam or on SC2.

some starters:

I do not do build orders. its just me, but i never got into it to say "i have to build 'this', then 'this', then 'this'"

If you have this mentaility and get attacked very early on ( a common cheese method) then your thought process is all messed up.

number 2: no matter what class you play, spawn the crap out of your gathering unit and gather, then -- and this is important -- SPEND THE RESOURCES.

stockpiling is crap and not worth it at all. all you'll end up with is a bunch of things in que to be built when stuff hits the fan.

number 3: (the last for now)

researches look great on paper but only research thigns you need. if you dont use air forces, why research how fast interceptors come out ofyour carriers (protoss) or if your wraiths can cloack (terran)

remember - spend minerals ON THINGS YOU'LL NEED. if you plan to be purely ground, then don't research things in your starport or things for things from your starport.

you'll learn and adapt to things as you play more, a great way to learn is to 1v1 with the comp AI. Put it on easy and learn, then watch the repays of it.

anywho -those are quick ideas to go from if you and me don't meet up inthe near future.

I agree for the most part, but I think every race has a fixed number of openers that adhere to certain build orders. The first 16-20 supply is not going to vary much for me, a protoss player (9 pylon 12 gate 14 assim/pylon16/17 core, next gate, etc,) because my scout doesn't reach their base until 11-12 supply. Build orders are only useful in the first 20 supply anyways, so saying "i don't do them" is kind of weird. After that, build forces to harass them and react to their army

About the not doing build orders. It's perfectly fine, but it can be extremely helpful in team play to know them. I've found that in 1v1 or ffa its not nearly as essential since the games tend to move at a slower pace. 2v2, 3v3 etc. i've found is much more about getting to those "tier 2" units as quickly as possible, and knowing the build orders can be a life saver.

As for help kariak u already friends with me xP but if you ever want some help on games ill be more than happy too. We can just play against some comps on easy or such and ill help you fix some problems if you have any, just pm on steam

I'd also suggest checking out some of Husky's commentaries, or HD's; both are good commentators who have a good grasp of the game.

Beat me to that. You watch those videos of the pros playing and you will learn how to get better. Just watch the macro and the micro.
