=(e)='s guide to dealing with punks

Thread Junky
Every now and then you might run into a punk with no admins present. Sometimes, there are situations where a punk will come into our servers to make our experience unpleasant for all of us. This is a guide telling you what you need to know how to help us keep the servers punk-free and enjoyable for everyone. In a situation where a pub breaks our rules for example (cussing, disrespect, accusations of hacking, using an exploit, racism) and there are no admins present to set him straight and you cannot get in contact with a G or a O you should take the initiative to set him straight. You should give a polite warning not a threat. Why? Because we all like to be treated with the dignity and respect that each and everyone deserves. A threat would be something like this. "Hey stop it or I'm going to get someone to ban you!" a polite message would be "Hey, *insert name* please do not use foul language in our servers, thank you also for a list of our rules type @rules. You notice that "@rules" right? Well that is the pimped out version of MOTD we find in source engine game. Why? Because no big windows pop out instead it sends you messages of our rules. We have it, use it! Don't forget about it.

Examples

1) Random player A says: Hey you noob gtfo recon class you f****t and do something, instead of camping.
At this point you should warn him firmly yet respectfully. Don’t be all wishy washy and be like "Hey!! Please stop T-T" Say "Random Player A, please watch your language and be respectful to other players, thank you." It is important that you use please and thank you and saying the players name will be more effective if you don’t cause then he could say I didn’t know you were warning me.

2) Random player B says: Hey what’s up n**ga
At this point most of us would jump the gun and ban him or post a ban request. Well don’t because this situation calls for w/k/b because one he did not use it with harmful intent nor did he use it in a racist manner. Because the word "n**ga" and its other form of racial slurs are more prevalent in society and we still do not accept it in our servers but we treat it as a w/k/b.

3) Random player C says: Hey you n***er turn off the jew hacks!
At this point the best thing you can do it post a ban request because he broke our golden rule of "No Racism!" because he used it in a racist manner and used it with harmful intent.
The best thing to do when you run into these situations is first contact an admin that has the game and let him know that there is trouble in the server.

If you followed all of these and you cannot get an admin and he continues to disrupts our server. The best thing you can do at this point is file a ban request and explain what had happen.

If you are not sure if the suspected punk is breaking a rule asks yourself these two questions:
1. Is it offensive?
2. Does it disrupt game play?

Now you know how to deal with punks without admins present. Remember, if there are admins on the server it might not be necessary to warn players, let the trained admins do all the "dirty work". But if you see something that an admin did not see, best thing to do is let him know via vent or some other form of private communication. Now go and enjoy our servers and don’t be afraid of punks, they should be afraid of you.

I'll keep this in mind in the servers.

Also, as an =(e)= remember the chain of command in the servers. This means that when an =(eG)= or an =(eGO)= is in the server then warning people about breaking the rules is not necessary. This is in place as to keep things consistent and prevent a public player from being warned verbally multiple times for the same offense.

It is also important to remember that when an admin on the server is talking to any player about a rule infraction then an =(e)= under any circumstances should chime in. If one has something to add do it in Ventrilo or over Steam/Xfire.

Thanks, good guide Kawaii.

Nice post! I always try to enforce rule # 1. Especially to any of our new admins/members. Like you said, warning people nicely yield better results.

I say try to add all the egs and ego people you can on steam or xfire. Just so you have somebody to ask if theres nobody in vent. Even if i am not in game ill be happy to get on and kick somebody who refuses to obey warnings.

Yeah. What he said.

Even if I'm not in-game I'm usually signed in to steam and if present will be happy to jump in game to deal with any punks.

Add me on steam if you have not already
steam name: breakneckspeed

I have a question though, although I think it may have been answered many times before.

Say someone just cussed or said a bad word, and there's no admin in the servers, I will politely ask them watch their language. Most of the time though, they respond and say that there is no chat filter and they can say what they want.

What's the best way to deal with that?

I just tell them. Its our server, its our rules. Please respect them.

If you don't have admin yet I would avoid doing that, it can just ignite the situation because not everyone likes to follow rules blindly.
For now if someone questions the rules with no admin on and you can not contact an admin try to politely give a quick explanation; everyone deserves that.
If the pub swears in general, you warn, and they ask why; you can tell them that swearing never contributes to the chat and that it can usually degrade into a flame war.
If the pub swears at someone, you warn, they ask why (I've seen this the most with people saying their characters swear all the time); you can point out to them that there is a difference between their character swearing and knowing that a real person is cussing at you.
In both cases swearing just detracts from the fun of the game, and any of these explanations of our rules usually get them to stop.
But just remember as an "e" member your main priority in game is to just have fun and to play the game, so don't get drawn into a long debate about the rules with some pub who's just trying to stir up some trouble.

As Ninja said have fun.
Say it once and if nothing take a screen shot of the chat and then post it up.
Cause to me if they keep going just cause there isnt a admin on ; than they do not have respect for the clan or for the servers.
Let the eGO's decide to ban them for a couple days or not.

Great information! I am usually quick to warn with please and thank you's. Please also keep in mind that we should all set an example by keeping our chat polite and clean at ALL times. Seeing eGO members use mildly derogatory language can open Pandora's box sometimes.
