If you are trying to meet the requirements of a video game and you are boggled by the RAM requirements yes. Windows Vista/7 you pretty much need at least 1gb of system ram because of the resources the OS itself takes up. I would suggest you get at least 2gb of ram especially when running Vista.
 
ya personally i would never use less than 4gb for windows seven.

windows takes a good amount on it's own and i would want atleast 2gb dedicated to my game.
 
well actually it goes way higher but iv had 8gb for a while since iv been running 64bit linux distros long before windows ever went 64bit.

Well ya 64bit supports an insane amount of ram...thats why before i upgraded to 64bit windows ive always had a dual-boot of a 64bit Linux, not to mention ive always done my programing in linux ever since college.

same i only use windows for games

all my web development a is done on my linux desktops and a few lamps servers

Doesn't 64-bit allow for up to 16 Yhottabytes or something? Whatever the equivalent of 16,000 Terabytes is.
