Well what CPU should I get.

Well at the end of this year, my parents are thinking about getting me a $1000+
computer if I get Straight A's.
I am usually a A and B grade person. But I am in all advanced classes.

So yeah
I am thinking about getting an
Intel Core i7 870
or
AMD Phenom II x6 1055T

EDIT: Found another type: Intel Core i7-930

I am probably going to overclock the CPU.

What other Processor would you recommend over these
So what do you guys think?

i7s OC really well (should be able to hit over 4.0 ghz). i would reccommend getting a Ph II 1090 BE (for the unlocked CPU multi) over the 1055T (which does not have the unlocked CPU multi) unless you are an involved overclocker. the 1090s OC really well too so you cant really go wrong with either. I like AMD because most AMD stuff (well mobo at least) is more resonably priced than intel stuff (so you can really splurge on your video card ).

Neither. Since you suggested a 1156 i7, just get the i5 760. Hyper Threading does so little to the majority of games it makes it not worth it. Unless of course you live near a Microcenter.

anandtech.com has a new CPU/GPU/SSD comparison chart that's being updated now. Not everything's covered, but they pretty much got the CPU market pretty much covered on a basic level for comparisons; nothing on OC.

Phobus is right, neither the i7 or AMD 6 core will really benefit anything unless you are an avid folder or benchmark junky. in the real world, that much power is not needed (unless you just have to have it). the i5 or an AMD 955/965 will work just fine.

Fixed. 1156 is perfectly capable of dual graphics.

Well I am probably going to run 2 ATI Raedon HD 5870's

But I also don't want to have to buy another computer the following year... I want the computer to be future proof.

I've got the AMD Phenom II x4 965, haven't tested the x6, but it should work well, as I've heard!
