Its actually to be considered a rail shooter much like Starfox 64 was so its not free range mode or anything like that and its also to be considered a mini game outside of the MMO gameplay. Something you can do while you wait around for a friend to get on or something. Still though its visually stunning and could be really fun. hopefully bioware will build upon it and open up free range flying as well as having space combat related to the game itself. Though certain details would have to be hammered out.

Dangit, i wish they would make it like a free roam. Go to different planets, etc.
they easily still could remember that its still in development and could easily be introduced at a later time. I think for the moment they want to focus more on the ground combat and missions. This could easily just be something to plug a hole and come back later to really expand on it.
The one thing SWG got right was Jump to Lightspeed. This doesn't impress me as much.
Rail shooter mini-game = complete fail.
I would rather have just waited and let them develop a proper space expansion even if it took a year longer than expected like JTL did; all the while taking shuttles through mysterious loading screen-esque wormholes to get to other planets.
I can see Anakin whining about his starship and Revan's ghost pops up, "Back in my day, we flew on rails! Quit ur $&$%#@!"
