Description
The Touhou Project (東方Project), also known as Toho Project or Project Shrine Maiden, is a Japanese doujin game series focused on bullet hell shooters made by the one-man developer Team Shanghai Alice, whose sole member, known as "ZUN", is responsible for all the graphics, music, and programming for the most part. They are similar to regular shooting games, but focus more on weaving through complex patterns containing anywhere from dozens to hundreds of bullets. The series is highly popular in Japan, with growing recognition in the West. Mostly recognized for its huge cast and derivative works, it has been the source of countless amounts of music arranges, images, parodies, flash animations, spin-off games, and even an unofficial anime.

Has anyone ever played this? If so, what's your favorite game? Favorite characters? Favorite music/arrange? My favorite game would have to be Imperisable Night and Shoot the Bullet, and my favorite character would have to be Sakuya Izayoi from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. I'm personally in love with the music. No other game series has ever achieved so many epic remixes and arranges as Touhou.
I'm sure some people must have heard about Touhou one way or another, for it has been a victim of much memetic mutation. For example, the famous [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ssh71hePR8Q"]McRoll[/ame] video is actually a pitch-change music video set to the tune of "U.N. Owen Was Her?", which is Flandre Scarlet's boss theme in the game Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.
