The original used Source SDK's faceposer and 3dsmax; this appears to have been made with stop-motion screenshots in Garry's Mod.

Nonetheless, it still is pretty impressive.

Neat video anyhow though...I do prefer the storytelling mode of the finished video, but as everyone here has said, the animation is way better on the original.
