Now how to record when you are playing the demo.

u can use Fraps, xfire record and wegame record

Fraps: http://www.fraps.com/download.php (Not free full version)
Xfire: http://www.xfire.com/
Wegame: http://www.wegame.com/

Some more info,
Fraps can record in super HD but cost alot of gb. (Half size for low fps count)
Xfire can record HD cost alot of gb but a little bit faster for weak pc's.
Wegame: Diddnt tested it yet less gb cost and doesnt take that much fps.

Hope this helps ya.

My xfire=Greatkillez

I would recommend fraps.

For tf2 or other source games i wish we had this cod demo player it will make things much easier! I know we can do this but its just more hassle.

once u get fraps and get ready to film make sure u do "viewdemo" not "playdemo" so u have control of the speed and u can go back and forth on the video.

(i may have to look into this, im pretty sure source games do the same, but i did that in cs 1.6)

Alright:
DO NOT USE FRAPS DO NOT USE FRAPS DO NOT USE FRAPS DO NOT USE FRAPS DO NOT USE IT
You guys FAIL. How DARE you recommend fraps to a guy who wants to use source recorder. Fraps is slow and laggy, source recorder is so much better.
This only works in source games:
Launch up the game with the demo (Source games only)
Type host_framerate 30 in console
Type startmovie MOVIENAMEHERE in console
Type playdemo DEMONAMEHERE in console
Let it play through, it's gonna be all laggy and no sound, it's okay, just let it finish.
Once done, exit game and google VirtualDub, it's a free program. Stick it in a folder on your desktop and open it up.
Open up my computer and navigate to your source game folder, there will be a LOT of images in there. Drag the first one into virtual dub.
That's the first part done, now you need to go to audio, wav audio (older versions of virtual dub only).
Navigate to your game folder and choose the .wav file that's the same name as your movie name.
Go to video->Video compressions and choose Microsoft MPEG-4 3 as the codec.
Go to file->save AVI and save it onto your desktop. Wait for that to finish and you get a no lag, super high definition picture.

I use fraps, most css movie makers use fraps.

doesnt vertualdub leave a horrible and huge watermark on there stuff?
Absolutely not. FRAPS leaves the watermark on it. Virtual dub does nothing like that, it's freeware damnit.

Fraps is not used by most CS:S movie makers, it's used by the lazy and not very good movie makers. If you look on youtube at the well edited videos they are made using source recorder and source recorder demo smoother. Let me explain the difference between fraps and source recorder to you. Fraps first of all slows down your framerate like crazy for the first 10 seconds, then after that keeps it a lot lower than it should be.
Fraps does not know when something is going to happen, it takes a screenshot of your screen for every frame no matter what, this causes lag when bullets fire, explosions go off and objects break.
Source recorder is ultra high-def, when recording in source recorder you can record in ultra low graphics, then pump yourself up to mega high graphics and take all the images using makemovie. Source recorder doesn't work like fraps, it works out all the leaves in CS:S, then projects it onto an image and then onto your screen view, source recorder knows what's going to happen at all times so it never, ever lags.

Firstly this is your opinion. Do not tell somebody to not use something when they havent tried it yet.

You may not have the full version of fraps thats why you are having these problems OR your computer may not be able to keep up thats why it is laggy. I have never had a problem with it ever and ive seen so many proffesional looking videos out there that have been made with fraps.

Remember he said how to convert demos and cod4 files.
How do i convert .demo and .dem from Source and Cod4 into files useable in vegas so i can cut them up?
If he said how do i make an ultra-high quality1080 source frag video then your method would have been fine however he did not so we can all assume he just wants to convert demos.

Another thing, you dont have startmovie in cod4 either.

Here are some videos i quickly found:
