i bought CoD4 off steam. It can run multiplayer without steam, but for some reason requires steam to play singleplayer.

Punkbuster is crazy, nails people so fast

I agree with you, Punkbuster is a pain in the butt sometimes. I was one of the few who actually PREFERRED, yes you heard me, PREFERRED the matchmaking system and VAC. The matchmaking system actually made playing together with friends MUCH more easier, and VAC didn't have as many glitches and whatnot, unlike Punkbuster. It made it more fun for me I guess...

Then again, DLC might be free... <3

Back when they changed Steam to its "new" layout, if I had it running in the background (not even shortcutting the game through Steam) then all servers would kick me. I haven't actually played Battlefield since then, so I might have to test again.

Win, me neither.

I just believe that punkbuster bans more hackers than VAC, but that's just my opinion.
And for the Steam Glitch, I am sure they will fix it as it is their next title, and should be on their list of "To do" somewhere. Although, I can run it on steam fine with no problems. /knockonwood

I hate punkbuster, it keeps crashing my CoD4 and that's the only reason why I don't play it as much.

I find VAC isnt as efficient as PB. Sure VAC does stuff well, but it can take WEEKS before the ban kicks in.

Punkbuster catches people during games immediately.

The VAC ban is delayed guys. Don't be critisizing it. It takes weeks because they catch more hackers that way, it means that they think it's undetectable when it isn't, so more hackers go and get it. It's just VACs method.
When I had punkbuster, it always ran in the background, it didn't just run in game, it ran all the time, which was a pain because I had to keep closing t with task manager to free up memory and CPU usage.
