EGO Zealot
EdgeGamers Organization Newsletter
August/September 2010 Edition

In this inaugural issue of the eGO Newsletter, you can read up on the latest news and gain some insight into the various divisions of our community. This includes the activities and changes of note that have occurred in August/September of 2010. Each division has presented a little bit of itself and its events to you, the readers, in the hopes that you will stop by and experience all that the organization has to offer. Please note that some of these changes are not limited to a Divisional scale, but have an impact on the community as a whole. If you would like to find out more about any of the events listed here, please feel free to contact a member of the respective division's Leadership. As this is the inaugural issue of the eGO Newsletter, we would like to extend our thanks to the everyone who has helped bring this issue to fruition, from our Community Managers down to the (eG)'s who contributed their time and effort.

Personel Service Center (PSC)

The Personnel Service Center (PSC) is proud to announce the promotion of razor1 to the position of Division Leader (DL), and Cullmann has been awarded the Division Leader Commendation award, one of eGO's highest honors. In addition to this news, the PSC also hosts two types of events each month for the community. These events are the e-Orientation and the Recruiting seminars. Both will be discussed in more detail later on in this article, and as always the PSC is looking for more members who are interested in helping EdgeGamers Organization (eGO) by processing the applications of new members. Membership in the PSC is open to all eG members and above. If you have your eG or eGO rank, and would like to join the PSC, feel free to PM an Advisor for the PSC and let them know your interested in joining. A list of all the Advisors for the PSC is listed on the Leadership Roster on the forums. Read more...

Call of Duty (CoD)

The Call of Duty (CoD) division would like to extend a warm welcome back to Kamakize Tommy. He has been missed for the past few months, but he is back and doing very well. You will be able to find him playing again on our servers, but you should not be mistaken that he has lost any of his abilities in his time away from our servers; be prepared to be in his sights more than he is in yours! We would also like to explain some of our events in better detail, and when you can expect to see them occur. Read more...

Day of Defeat: Source (DoD:S)

Day of Defeat: Source (DoD:S) has had a very dynamic couple of months. As most of you noticed the Colmar map has been removed, and we finished trials of other popular maps: Sora, Caen, Argentan, and Anzio. After carefully looking over the results from each of the Maps that ran, we found that Anzio was the most liked. Remember that this is the first Instant Respawn server in DoD:S, so give it a try! It started the month ranked 427, and now is up to 131 overall! Find it at 24/7 =(eGO)= Anzio -Instant Respawn the IP address: 208.43.76.158. Read more...

eGO MOD Division (MOD)

Over the past month EdgeGamers Organization (eGO) has tested the waters with two additional modifcations (Mod), for the Source Engine, alongside that of Insurgency. The vigor for and success of these mods has propelled a change - The Insurgency division has expanded and is known as the eGO Mod Division. While Insurgency is still our main focus, we have added some new and exciting games to our lineup. We would also like to congratulate Burt_Reynolds on his promotion to Division Leader (DL). Read more...

EVE Division (EVE)

The EdgeGamers EVE Online Corp. continues to grow and is involved in many different activities in EVE. For those who are not familiar with EVE Online, it is a spaceship based MMO in a HUGE universe all running on one server. All players are together in the same universe, all the time. The EdgeGamers Corp. controls, with authority I might add, one Wormhole with three player-owned structures (POS), with each station equivalent to a Death Star, and uses this set up to make a ridiculous amount of ISK (in-game money). How much ISK you may ask? The kind of ISK that allows people to pay their monthly subscription if they so choose to.. Read more...

Counter Strike: Source (CS:S)

The Counter-Strike: Source (CS:S) Division Leadership has been working to revise the Jail rules for an extremely long time and we are finally ready to release the updated set! These rules have been posted in our divisional forums (link below), and comprise the new standards for Jail gameplay of the future. These rules have been completely rewritten by Cryptex and Bigredking, which has resulted in our "rules" morphing into more of a "guide". Some of the changes can only be describe as major ones. With these major and a lot of minor changes it has enabled the whole jail server to become a more entertaining environment. Read more...

Team Fortress 2 (TF2)

This summer the Team Fortress 2 (TF2) Division brought back an old favorite with the TF2 League. This competition pits teams of six players against each other in weekly half-hour long battles of epic proportions. At the end of the first round the top ranked teams are reseeded and the mayhem begins anew. When the bloodbath is finally over the winners will receive the fawning admiration of their peers, total bragging rights for at least week, and a congratulatory phone call from the President*.
*actual prizes awarded are subject to availability and may differ substantially from those listed.

We would like to give a special thanks to TcVinsky for her hard work running TF2 League. Read more...

Signiture of the Week (SotW)

The Signature of the Week (SOTW) contest was started on March 13, 2009, by Beta. It is a weekly event; however we have skipped a few weeks in the past, but are currently on our 70th competition. It is open to anyone with an interest, with talent strictly being optional. The competitions are light hearted, whimsical, and fun. The submission threads usually come out on Sunday morning and are open for submissions until Saturday evening Midnight Eastern, or whenever I get up on Sunday. Read more...

e-Orientations

Monthly e-orientations are held in Ventrilo, for new members to join Leadership and members from the various divisions to learn a little more about EdgeGamers Organization. Representatives from each division will tell you a little about their division, and the various events that they have going on. At the end of the event the floor is opened up for everyone to ask questions. We invite all who have just joined our gaming community to attend this event and gain a greater perspective of what it is all about.

Recruiting seminars

Interested in getting some tips on how to approach non-community members (pubs) in the servers to join EdgeGamers Organization? The PSC hosts regular seminars in ventrilo for members to come and exchange tips and recruiting strategies. These seminars are hosted regularly and you can find out when they are next held by looking at any welcome message to new recruits.

CoD Division News

By UneXpected

The Call of Duty (CoD) division would like to extend a warm welcome back to Kamakize Tommy. He has been missed for the past few months, but he is back and doing very well. You will be able to find him playing again on our servers, but you should not be mistaken that he has lost any of his abilities in his time away from our servers; be prepared to be in his sights more than he is in yours! We would also like to explain some of our events in better detail, and when you can expect to see them occur.

Spec Ops event is run every Friday Night in a kind of wild card format to keep it feeling fresh and new each time. In the CoD Division Announcements forum a post will go up before the event telling you where and when it will be held. Within that post is a poll asking what kind of game players are interested in, like Tag, Redlight, Greenlight or even Kill Rover to name a few. For any specific questions about Spec Ops or suggestions for future events please contact Stick or Frikfry on the forums.

Another event that we host is a 10 man showdown (5 vs 5 Promod) that we hold randomly. For this event finding enough people in ventrilo is an absolute necessity, so if you are in the mood for it get your friends together and see it started.

Unfortunately our World at War servers have been taken down and will not be back up. The decision was reached, in part, due to low population and trouble bringing in recruits for the division. This has allowed us to focus our resources on other parts of our division, and as an added bonus has helped servers of other divisions reduce their lag.

Our Recruit numbers have been on the rise recently, and we are very happy with our members who are vigorously trying to recruit members into the COD Division. Please accept our thanks for all the hard work and know that without you guys this division would not be what it is, nor will it be as strong in the future.

DoD:S Division News

By Jeod66; Quaffer

In other news, a squad of top-notch eGO members obliterated a platoon from {T-E}, The Enforcers, at Palermo in July. Hopefully more friendly matches of this kind can be set up in the future. Our run of the Assassination game ended with Dutchoper72, Sumac, and BG (Warrior) taking the top three places respectively. Congratulations to all three of you, and also to everyone else that participated!

DoD:S has also started up a Realism Campaign. The idea of the campaign project is to provide you all with an opportunity to play realism with a slightly competitive edge. Our first campaign has finished and resulted in an Axis win over the Allies. While this first run-through was simply for testing purposes, the 5-week long event was largely successful. Looking ahead to the future, we are now accepting registrations for Campaign 2. Click to Register. The Campaign is slated to begin September 11th, don't miss out!

Our divisional Admin Trainers have added two members to the team recently: Greenlight Terror and ShadowBlade72. Some may remember Greenlight from holding classes in the past as one of our original Admin Trainers, and we're glad to have him with us once again. ShadowBlade72 is a veteran of the Tech Help forums and will help us round out a solid team of trainers.

Unfortunately, event attendance (except for Realism) has been lacking lately, and this needs to change. Greenlight Terror has also agreed to step in to help out with the Monday Melee Madness event as a "breath of fresh air". We're also looking to use more of the maps loaded onto the Events Server, and are experimenting with them as we move forward.

In the rumor mill:
Dog Tag scrims; are they lurking around the corner? Look for the poll on the forums.
Bones saw Quaffer getting his mapping tools out. Word is, as soon as a final decision is made on the Instant Respawn Server, the Strategic Map Collection will get an update.

MOD Division News

By USCG Hammer

Over the past month EdgeGamers Organization (eGO) has tested the waters with two additional modifcations (Mod), for the Source Engine, alongside that of Insurgency. The vigor for and success of these mods has propelled a change - The Insurgency division has expanded and is known as the eGO Mod Division. While Insurgency is still our main focus, we have added some new and exciting games to our lineup. We would also like to congratulate Burt_Reynolds on his promotion to Division Leader (DL).

Here is a brief description of these two new Mods that we are supporting:

Resistance and Liberation is a Mod that is similar to Day of Defeat: Source, set in World War II, with the difference of having no crosshairs and being a iron sights type of game. Immerse yourself in the epic 32 player strategic game play in Normandy of 1944. Battle through hedgerows, while avoiding snipers from bombed out buildings, seeking to capture or defend your objectives from your enemies.

Firearms: Source is a Mod which is similar to Counter-Strike: Source, where you have to purchase your weapons, but it utilizes a Capture the Flag objective system on its maps. As can be inferred by its name, the main focus of this Mod is weapons, and a lot of them. With the current build it boasts over 30 weapons available for use in game, with new ones added with each revision of the game.

With our expansion and inclusion of new ideas, we are always looking for eager and motivated people to help. We will need help with recruiting to further the growth of the Mod Division. If you're interested in helping out, please contact one of the divisional Advisors found in the Leadership Roster.

All of these mods are free to download, which you can find at the links provided below. Our current offering of servers for each game are as follows:

Resistance and Liberation - 208.43.76.154:27015

Insurgency Firefight - 208.43.76.153:27015
Insurgency Dust2 - 208.43.76.155:27015

EVE Division Post

BY Uncle P

The EdgeGamers EVE Online Corp. continues to grow and is involved in many different activities in EVE. For those who are not familiar with EVE Online, it is a spaceship based MMO in a HUGE universe all running on one server. All players are together in the same universe, all the time. The EdgeGamers Corp. controls, with authority I might add, one Wormhole with three player-owned structures (POS), with each station equivalent to a Death Star, and uses this set up to make a ridiculous amount of ISK (in-game money). How much ISK you may ask? The kind of ISK that allows people to pay their monthly subscription if they so choose to.

At the same time the corporation has joined Faction Warfare, opening up a steady stream of Player vs. Player (PvP) opportunities, to both experienced and new players alike. Within days some players were on over 20 kill-mails, going out on local low sec fleet operations. In addition to these standing activities, Faction Warfare and using the Wormhole, the Corporation also hosts weekly events. One of these is Mission Mondays, where anyone, regardless of their skill, can join a fleet in Sasoutikh (our home high-security space system) and get their Player vs. Environment (PvE) on! ISK and Theology Council standing are free to all corporation members. This is particularity beneficial for new players who otherwise could not run level 4 missions (high level) without the experienced players support. If you can fly it, you can bring it. In addition, scheduled and spontaneous roams allow Corp only PvP opportunities, in which all skill levels can participate. Because, no matter how much damage the experienced players may bring with their battleships, it is with the help of the new players, in their fast moving frigates, that their targets are pinned down and their destruction is ensured.

Along with this regularly scheduled fun, the Corporation engages in whatever shenanigans that arise. If we find another Wormhole that we want, we will take it. A call to arms goes out, and before you know it, someone is losing a POS and we own their wormhole. You ask what happens when someone comes into our wormhole and starts setting up their own POS? We tell them to pay us money or get pwned. The end result is that our Corp makes some money and those players get packing. To top off all of these activities, the EdgeGamers Corp continues to explore new avenues for growth with future plans to eventually expand into 0.0 space (null security space), and a small but dedicated group of members who pursue industry with the goal of building an internal Corp market. If you ever wanted to play the most expansive, complex, and rewarding MMO, contact any EVE member for more information.

CS:S Division News

The Counter-Strike: Source (CS:S) Division Leadership has been working to revise the Jail rules for an extremely long time and we are finally ready to release the updated set! These rules have been posted in our divisional forums (link below), and comprise the new standards for Jail gameplay of the future. These rules have been completely rewritten by Cryptex and Bigredking, which has resulted in our "rules" morphing into more of a "guide". Some of the changes can only be describe as major ones. With these major and a lot of minor changes it has enabled the whole jail server to become a more entertaining environment.

Click here to view new Jail Rules

With the release of these rules as a backdrop, the Jail servers have been merged back into a single 44-slot server. After a long debate amongst the CS:S Leadership, we felt that consolidating the Jail servers was the best move for the future of the division. All the maps that were running on both of the old servers have been loaded on this single server and are ready to play.

Jail Server - 75.126.144.81:27015

As a final note we would like to welcome Beta to the rank of Advisor for our division; congratulations Beta!

Signiture of the Week

by Quaffer

The Signature of the Week (SOTW) contest was started on March 13, 2009, by Beta. It is a weekly event; however we have skipped a few weeks in the past, but are currently on our 70th competition. It is open to anyone with an interest, with talent strictly being optional. The competitions are light hearted, whimsical, and fun. The submission threads usually come out on Sunday morning and are open for submissions until Saturday evening Midnight Eastern, or whenever I get up on Sunday.

Winners are decided by a vote that is open for the week following the competition. Any one can vote. You do not have to be an artist to know what you like.

Guest coordinators are welcome to try their hand at running a SOTW once they have checked with me for scheduling.

Each week has a theme. Themes can range from "your favorite ..." to make a signature for leadership. The most popular theme is always FreeStyle (do whatever you want) which we do every five weeks. Our last FreeStyle garnered fifteen entries. What an excellent turnout. Themes from the last month include Animal, Music, and Circle(s), Anonymous FreeStyle, and Two Color. Themes are taken from the discussion threads, requests, and my, admittedly, perverse nature.

Anonymous FreeStyle was a bit of a departure from the norm. All entries were passed through the moderator and they were posted without names attached. After the vote the artists names will be revealed. Nameless Signatures; how's that for an oxymoron?

What's this week's theme? FreeStyle.

Come check it out. Find us at: Off-Topic and Entertainment > Art Work > Signature of the Week

The Division also gave its servers a bit of a reshuffle during the past month. The ever-popular Blackmesa server moved to a new home (174.36.42.208:27015). Egypt is now a 24 slot fragfest, while Turbine and 2Fort Instant-Respawn are still going strong with 32 players each. The default rotation for the Valve Maps server is now Dustbowl, Badlands, Gravel Pit; with other maps available to those bold players who rock the vote! And, back by popular demand, just like the McRib, the 2Fort Regular Respawn server is up and delivering some action.

The crown of leadership within the Division has also seen some new faces. After distinguishing himself as head of the Division's Admin Trainers, trykael has risen to join ScrappyDoo as a Division Leader (DL). Respawn, after a long and accomplished run at the helm of TF2, has answered the call to shepard the rise of the fledgling EVE Division as one of their DLs. We wish him well in his new position and look forward to that division's certain success under his tutelage.

Perhaps the best known and least sane member of TF2, Xosniper, has resigned his positions as advisor, citing "your face" as chief amongst his reasons for stepping down. NCA, a long time member of eGO and one of the division's Admin Trainers, has been selected to fill the slot. Another long time member of the community, Idol, has been chosen to join the Division's team of Advisors. If you thought that was all, Kevimaster has been promoted to the rank of Advisor, joining TcVinsky and iGreen, to help lead the TF2 Event Coordination team.
