Xbox Live subscription to increase in price

Just found this out via ECA. I figured those of you who have an Xbox Live account would like to know about this: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/08/microsoft-raises-price-of-xbox-live-service.ars

Im sure there will be some very unhappy people when it comes to this decision. Im just thankful I dont have to pay a monthly subscription for PSN. (not trying to show off here)

It's $50 now, they want to raise it to $60. Which would be all fine and good if Microsoft was willing to tell us why they're raising the price. From what I can tell, they're just doing this because they can.

Also, you can stockpile cards because they won't expire anytime soon and keep the $40 going for a couple years.

Yeah but with the consoles getting more popular, they're getting more money from the consoles themselves and therefore upping the price of online play. Playstation launched PlayStation Plus, but you don't have to use it.

I thought it was great that they added that as an optional service. Its a bit pricey

I think its about time that they did increase the price from 49.99. Xbox live has been out for 8 years without a single price increase. To have anything on the market for 8 years and not increase in price due to inflation is unusual.


On the plus side, stock up on the $40 year cards as mentioned, they dont expire, and you save 20%.


I think that giving people this sale will help downplay the bad feelings because it gives them a cheaper out.

well i dont have a ps3 or an xbox 360

i used to just play at friends houses

but now that ive moved and i need to get my own system

this may influence my choice

although if i get a ps3 i wont be able to play with all my buddies

hmmmm... its the tough choices like this that make being a gamer hard
