Well, my amd 440 tri-core came in the mail, but was DOA. I am only getting a refund around 50 bucks. I want to use a tri-core still and I've been looking at this one in particular:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103248

Its cheaper than the 440. It doesn't come with a fan, had to return the one that came with the 440 >_>. It comes with an L3 cache (which the athlon series lacked, but that made them cheaper in the long run). It has a hyper transport speed of 1000mhz, while the 440 had a speed of 4000mhz. The 440 has a higher operating freq of 3.0, while the 8600, has a freq of 2.3.

Basic stats aside, is it wise to get the 8600 or should I save my money and get another 440? (I already said i'm getting a tri-core in a previous, don't need 4 right now, but a 3rd core will be welcome.)

Also, if I get the 8600, can any help me out with a processor fan, I'm practically broke right now and I need to find one thats good for really cheap

Ew no. If you get a regular Phenom, make sure it ends in 50 (8650, 9650, 9750, etc). Which I would still not recommend.

Nah, just stay away from the Phenom I series in general. Ugh. I had one, and my current processor (which is a dual core) is so much faster.

Phenom I's don't unlock.

In all honesty, I would get an Athlon II X2 if you are really budget limited. And why are you only getting a $50 refund?

AMD will RMA the chip unless you broke some pins off or something.
