For all you Droid X owners.

As a word of warning you should not use the leaked 2.2 ROM as you will not get the OTA update for the 2.2 that has all the bug fixes and what not. I know not all of you are using this phone but it woulda saved me a whole lotta pain to not have done that. If anyone wants to know how to fix it I will post a link to the tutorial.

the 2.2 ROM was meant for the DROID not the X the update to froyo 2.2 on the droid X is coming in sep (flash content)!

Yeah, along with "not motoblur but is still obnoxious." I'll take my Droid 1 overclocked to 1.2Ghz running FroYo.

I feel bad for your cpu. Thats way to hard on it. Thats 110 faster than it was meant to be. I'm baffled it doesn't melt in your pocket.

Lol, I am actually running it on a voltage lower than stock. I've had the phone since launch, no problems yet. Temps aren't much higher than stock(few degrees higher Celsius when web browsing or using facebook). It only runs that high when it's loaded, otherwise it runs 250. No problems yet. I can upgrade in another year and 2 months anyways, don't need it to last any longer than that.

I never understand why people want to overclock everything they have. It's like...just got a new cpu, gotta overclock it. Just got a new phone, gotta overclock it. I will never understand what the point is. Just live with what you have, and don't try and make it better by frying the insides of it. It reduces the lifespam by more than half on many systems, and it is not recommended by anyone really. Plus overclocking a phone by double its mhz is failure.

And, I like the motoblur features on Droid 2, pretty cool stuff.

OH NOES! my cpu will only last 7 years instead of 10 GASP!

And why not get the most performance out of what you have? You are already paying a marked up price for it, get what you payed for!

Lol owned.
When people look down on overclocking, they're thinking of overclocking older chips. These new ones are boss at overclocking without adding too much voltage.
Overclocking isn't bad, people.

If the manufactures wanted the chips to go to that high of a voltage, they would make it the stock voltage. They put voltage on the safest possible one, without going any higher. Anything higher can fry the system. And to reflex, 7 is not half of 10. And to phobus, I'm glad you think I got "Owned" by a post that someone made to me on a forum about gaming.

They have that voltage for power consumption reasons/power efficiency reasons. Yes, it could fry. That's if you overvolt it past the safe voltages, which are quite a bit higher than stock voltages. And give some proof that overclocking halves the life of anything.
I'm glad you have such a wrong idea about overclocking on a forum about gaming.

Not sure about Intel, but AMD encourages overclocking/overvolting. They give you a max 'safe' voltage that you should try to not go over, and they supply you with an unlocked multiplier (on most) to make life a little easier.

Intel has chips like that, too. They have chips specifically designed to overclock.

AMD's are great for overclocking. Intel's chips are pretty tough and can take a lot of overclocking. I have an Intel E8600 (dual core, stock 3.33ghz) oc'd to 4.3ghz. The temperature isn't significantly higher, I've had it for well over a year, I haven't had any large failures....these processors are designed with huge safety margins that allow for fluctuation of temperatures, speeds, and loads. As long as you know the limits and have proper cooling, overclocking modern processors is fine.

And chill out guys. Be mature enough to have a discussion without being snide and insulting. It will get your further.

I think you have it the other way around. AMD is trash for overclocking compared to Intel, minus the Phenom II 10xxT series. Everything else hits a wall at 3.9GHz without an insane amount of voltage.
Intel's Core ix series is just boss at overclocking. They're all pretty much guaranteed 4GHz. The i5/i3's can hit 4.5GHz on the right motherboard.

I am perfectly chill. And it's immature to say to someone else 'Be mature' when they are being mature. If you think that's immature, you should go to some other forums and realize this one is like Bambi. o.o

It was directed at frap. <3

The Phenom's seem pretty good from what I've heard although I'm a diehard Intel/Nvidia fan. I honestly think the Intels are higher quality and more flexible when it comes to overclocking.

Probably because they are. But, they're going to kill that with Sandybridge. I am so disappointed. They have such good potential. But the locked FSB is bk. Do not want. Definitely going for Bulldozer, which is new architecture, which is EXACTLY what AMD has needed since K8. K10 is still poopy.

I've never had any hardware fry on me. Never. And I have always been an overclocker. And even if I did shorten the life, why do I need my phone to last 6 years when it is gonna be replaced in 2? Why do I need my computer to last 5 years when it's gonna be replaced in 2-3? That last question wasn't worth asking cause I still have 8 year old computers that are overclocked...
