Beta to Source, What do you miss?

I was wondering what parts of the game you missed. There have been a lot of changes since DoD beta, and I was wondering what you liked, disliked, remembered but don't really miss, etc...

Here are three of my picks...

1. Caen -- enough said.

2. K43 -- this gun rocked... hard

3. Accuracy -- automatic weapons that shot straight, not in a circle
 
I miss not being able to clock people with the Garand
The whole secondary fire that you could cross check people with the rifle butt was so funny
and it made a hilarious sound when you did it too. Sneaking up on German snipers in the old Avalanche map and hiding in their sniper houses was hilarious
 
Hmm, what do I miss?

First of all, the really good maps:
Caen, Anzio, Hentau, Schwetz

...and last but not least, that fantastic FG-42 sniper MG para weapon. It was so well liked, it became an add-on weapon mod for tons of classic DoD servers. I really miss that on Source.
 
Yeah i miss caen also. I miss the grenadier bayonet's too, i used to slice people with that all the time. Plus the rifle butt kill was awesome. I liked the regular nades with the riflemen too.

Maybe we can whip something up, like remake caen, any takers?
 
I miss how the Garand was much better than in Source. I miss buttsmacks. I miss Caen and Saints and a couple of more maps. I miss how easily the weapons killed.

That said; Avalanche is a world better in Source. Sound and graphics are much better in Source. Weapon accuracy within the confines of the CoF are much more accurate. I like Iron Sights for rifles a lot (though I don't use them as much as I should). Color balancing and lighting is much, much better in Source. Many of the gun sounds are better in Source. Player movement looks better in Source. Smoke looks good. Kill animations are much better. Ragdolls aren't so bad, though perhaps a little overdone.
 
ummm...i miss the automatic sniper rifle to auto goes to the head, auto shoots, auto caps, and auto not dies
 
Caen, the K43, the old srg class being able to use the carbine or the m1a1, bayos and buttstocks>rifle nades, the enfield, the mMG34, Caen, Caen, and Caen.


Ahhhh.... the good old days of people spamming "USE THE PIAT!"

that gun pwns all and i loved using that or the german BAR knock off good guns and i miss old dod maps

I hated hated HATED that..... but I do kinda miss it.
 
I barely remember the beta [I only played it for a couple months, it surprised me that I had it actually... I didn't buy it, but when I registered the platinum HL pack it added it to my steam :-\] but I remember there being a revolver. I LOVE revolvers.
 
I dunno... DoD beta existed several years before Steam was released. But yeah, I got DoD when I bought the HL platinum package too.
 
I miss the carbine and 2 nades...

I also miss switch map it was my favorite...

I like source better cause you have to have a lot more skill to do well in source. Also for a lot of us it was an even playing field to start over learning again.

Great graphics and I love the rocket launchers in source!
 
I miss the brits.....ooh the brits....they had that one gun. And it was amazing. Jolly O'le rotters of source bojanked the whole country!
 
Aw man, Some of yall missed out. The old DoD, I mean like beta 1, was a hunk of junk but was still so much fun to play. Back in the day when, on a 64 person server, 63 people would be named "Cpt. Miller"...


...and the other guy was "Pvt. Jackson".
 
Caen was the funnest map....also I dont know if they have it on source but they got rid of charlie didnt they? that was one of the best maps ever......And another map krastoff I think it was
