what is this whole xfire thing?

Hey guys, the only time I've heard of xfire is in the forum. What is it exactly and for what reasons would i want to get it

xfire is an ingame chat system, its free, e-z to use, you can send files and have mic chats, it helps if you want to talk to friends or if you need to tell council or someone else something important
