Game Overview - Escape From Tarkov

Escape from Tarkov is an extremely realistic first-person shooter with features such as detailed weapon customization, advanced skills and health management UI, realistic visuals and firefight mechanics, a unique weight and movement system, and so much more — all while still being in beta! Many more features are planned to arrive before release. This game is not for the average gamer or PC set-up so check your specs before trying to dive in the expansive and unforgiving place known as Tarkov.

First, there was DayZ, H1Z1, and then the booming genre of battle royales. Stack all of these together and you've created Escape from Tarkov. Take a gander at an open combat battle royale with all-or-nothing gameplay. Spawn you (and some friends) into an expansive map. You spawn into an expansive map with a limited amount of time to get in and get out. Hunt players, bandits, and other scavenger NPCs to gain loot. Come with your best gear; exit with nothing. Customize your arsenal with limitless combinations, tactical armor, modifications, and the necessities like ammo, clothing, and medicine to keep the match going.

Tarkov offers a simulation of real-life combat with its intense playstyle in this first-person shooter. No dolphin dives like Call of Duty, only sitting ducks and strategic retreats are waiting for you if you're not willing to commit to a drawn-out firefight. Beware, there's no HUD to rely on. Every bullet counts (literally). There are no regenerative shields, and only blood loss, bandages, and splints will accompany you on your trip to death. Make it out alive yet? Spend your Roubles (in-game currency) to rearm and redeploy to your next target. This game is not for your average player. Be ready to commit blood, sweat, and tears for the stray bullets headed your way.

My favorite part of Escape from Tarkov are the many different play styles with each one being viable. For example you can choose to focus on fighting other players, looting, or rat (adjective/ Verb [action, ratting]; used to describe a player who avoids all conflict or waits for extremely opportune times to reveal themselves) around and still be rewarded. I have about 1500 hours in the game across 2 wipes. (unit of measurement; describes a period of 4-8 months before the game resets all players to level 1) I am not currently playing for personal opinions ill get into later and because of the amount of time you have to invest to progress into the game, unfortunately I don't that spare time anymore. I would recommend EFT. It is a great game that can either punish or reward your decisions so think carefully! Like all games, there is a learning curve... a very steep one at that. Anyone thinking about buying the game must have a desire to learn in order to thoroughly enjoy it. I believe EFT (Acronym; Escape from Tarkov) originally held a 5/5 rating for me. The issue is that Battlestate (Company; developers of EFT) has been harming the game to appeal to their image of how the game should be played. They also removed or altered many aspects that I personally enjoyed about the game! As a result my rating has decayed to a 4/5.

Between the ongoing cheating problem Tarkov has and the fact that it greatly favors people who can pour a ton of time into the game. It's really not for the casual gamer! It's genre is: Hardcore Looter Shooter Extraction. This is a game that requires your focus, the kind of game you devote most if not all of your game time to. That being said the casual gamer can play it, just understand that you'll run into majority of players who are ahead of you in gear, weaponry, stats, and levels. There is a lot of fun to be had however. For example, when I play with my homie we gear up and look for a key to get to a specific map (LABS) and run offline raids (Description; the ability to go into a map with no additional players other than you and your squad. This is to allow new players to learn the map and the ability to practice against Ai without the fear of losing your gear and items) and have a blast. Easily a 5/5 if they fix the problems currently plaguing the community!

I really love early wipe (beginning of a wipe where the majority of the community are low level, with crappy gear) in Tarkov. Most everyone is on the same level, basically using scraps. It feels really rewarding to get kills, do quests and find loot too. Gun play overall is pretty sick and its great to play with friends. The wipes are what I look forward to as it keeps me coming back. I would definitely recommend it if you are into more of a hardcore shooter type of game. I want to emphasize it's not easy and will kick your butt the first few times around. If you get over the learning curve you'll have a great time Overall I'll give it a 4/5 stars. There are aspects of it that are annoying, but overall one of my favorite games, very unique. I want to point out cheating is a problem.

I'd like to start off by saying this game is easily a 5/5. I believe it to be a founding father of the genre for looter shooter extractions. Its well executed when it comes to game design, realism, modern weaponry, customization, and gameplay! Its a game I've spent 2100 hours in and can say I've honestly and thoroughly enjoyed 1900 of those hours. For those thinking about buying the game, but the price of $120 for the deluxe edition seems steep, well it is. However they offer lower priced releases of the game with the features deluxe edition players get still being accessible through in game currency. So its not pay to win and EFT genuinely rewards players for their time spent playing. Enough praise though the reason I gave this game a 4/5 is because Battlestate is barely making any real progress into permanently removing cheaters from their game. Their effort to combat cheaters has ultimately ended up punishing the players who don't cheat. This has ended up negatively affecting the current player base making the likelihood to run into cheaters higher. Once fixed I think Tarkov will have my full attention but until I will only have 1900 hours of good memories!

Since the time I was interviewed, I have come to discover something relevant that may be worth considering in terms of Tarkov, and that is singleplayer modding of the game. Through a tool call SPTarkov, You can play in an instance that is SEPERATED from tarkov and patched to only work offline, and be a singleplayer challenge. It adds more bots as "Scavs", and "PMC"'s. You effectively can mod the game to be what you are looking for out of that type of game, in the sense that there are mods that you can add that increase the realism or make the experience more casual. I've since set up that Singleplayer mod and have had an excellent experience because it's allowed me to create the experience that fits me. No cheating to worry about. NOW I WILL SAY, This has ran into some performance hiccups, but I've actually found it to be way more enjoyable than any tarkov experience I've had to date and while the trouble has been significant (low FPS in areas, rendering funk, having to restart the game after each raid), I've found the ability to ignore it. SPTarkov is a 4/5 for sure, if I can get the rest of the issues tweaked, expect that to switch to a solid 4.5/5

The tool itself copies your normal installation of tarkov to a seperate directory, so that way you don't accidentally load 3rd-party code on the official build and accidentally get banned.

For reference.

KEEP IN MIND, THAT IS THE OFFICIAL SITE OF SPTARKOV, BUT IS STILL A 3RD PARTY. Do your research

As someone who has sunk many hours into SPT, its an absolutely fantastic mod that can't be recommended enough. The singleplayer mod itself also has a very active modding community where you can mod SPT itself for new gear, quests, traders, etc.

And for those curious: No you wont be banned for using it and it is within the Tarkov ToS. Install requires a legitimate copy of up-to-date Tarkov that you duplicate to its own folder and patch w/ the mod, not your live version. Playing does not connect to Tarkov official servers but rather a local hosted server so your account is completely separate and your official account is only used to update the main game through the official launcher.
