What do think ?
or
recommend something better cant be more than $1200
no less than 2.0 ghz dual core CPU
no less 128 mb Vid card (if 128mb see if its shared memory or card)
no less than 512 mb but 1gb is better
Also try for XP pro Vista to me is like a gun shot to the foot
Nvidia and AMD id truely like but Intel CPUs or ATi cards not bad

thats a pretty good system, you might check out systemmax, i think. You can get their systems through tigerdirect or directly from them.

good luck.

sounds good ill check it out

and btw i think the vid card the laptop mentioned shoulda added this mostly likely starts as 64mb but more ram more vid ram allocated

i hate hp and compaq. I have had nothing but bad luck witht hat company. My hp laptops and ones that friends have had of different models were crappy as well. My camera and others ive known with hp cameras broken in one year. the only thing i have that I like is my deskjet 932c. Works well still. Id recomend acer... or asus... i get them mixed up but they are both good from reviews I have read.

well for the price i cant say no but asus is a good brand (have mobos and cd/dvd drives from them) so ill check them out

Asus isn't known for their customer support. I'd just get a dell with a good onsite warranty. Something like....

Inspiron 1520 ... $1168 taxed and shipped

Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Genuine Windows ® Vista Home Premium Edition
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
15.4 inch display (1280x800)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Network Card and Modem Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini-Card
Camera No Webcam Option
85Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)
3 Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor - Next Business Day

A lot of play in the options. I was guessing from your previous video card choice you don't plan to play any games on it.

Intel Intergrated Graphics no way
ASUS yes has bad customer service but great quality products cause everything i have from them 4 mobos, 5 cd/dvd drives and one graphics card from them, everything ran fine never needed to call customer service so they're good in my mind

that setup though looks almost like the ASUS laptop i was looking at except ATi Radeon Xpress in it, 1 gig ethernet port and built in wifi

which specs do outbreak?

The 1250 xpress is aa low as it goes atm. The x3100 is the best integrated chip out atm. I'd avoid the Turion unless unavoidable.

256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8600M GT

okay sounds like a good laptop but cpu is a lil low, who makes it asus?

so X1100 radeon is too old or too lame to run source with decent settings and decent fps?

Anything integrated atm would run source like crap. That 8600 wouldn't. It was another dell but without the 3 year onsite warranty.

If you want a laptop capable of gaming for under $1200 you kinda have to go with a dell. You can sometimes find a toshiba after discount that can do it.

okay i like that set up, but so the wired LAN only hits 100mbits no 1 gig ethernet?

but yeah looks good, who makes it though?
and your saying the 8600M wont play source?

Yeah, 8600 will play it fine. I was thinking since you were going integrated in your first setup that you didn't wanna play games :)

Its the dell 1520. Go to www.dealcatcher.com and click the dell home button and get the latest coupon for the inspirons. Then go configure away.

Since you get vista with the dells make sure you have 2 gigs of ram for gaming. Right now they are doing 2 gig upgrade and 160hd upgrade for free AND you get to use the good coupon from dealcatcher. So now is the time to upgrade if any I guess. Won't get that good again for a bit especially since this is their fresh off the block series.
