I have seen alot of talk about what to upgrade to, what to buy, this and that. Well I wanted you all to know that I have built computers for years now. I build everything from the basic machine to the high end gaming machine.

I can get parts relatively cheap and would be willing to build anyone here a computer - of course not for free. If you are interested in a new machine, an upgrade or parts, please PM me or email me at [email protected].

To be honest.....NEITHER. Laptops are hard to come by for good gaming. Acer's are known as a basic cheap laptop. Your gaming will be very bad.

For this price, why dont you build a rig or buy a good dell and upgrade the video card?

Death that is a lot to ask of Shane. Go poke around Google - I'm 100% sure there is a treasure trove of information about building computers.

Yep, that is what I used for my first PC build. Some online guides walk you through step-by-step exactly what to do. Death, if you need any pointers or a list of all the essential parts you will need, just give me a PM. That goes for anyone else too. I am pretty computer saavy. :)

building a computer is fun and not too hard ... it is deffinitly the way to go!!! The actual assembely is pretty straight forward but if you do mess up it could be bad...

How much do you think it would cost to build a decent computer? Like I don't know specifics of anything, but something that would be good for video/sound/graphics editing and gaming. My computer is OK, but some things are somewhat lacking.

I bet for around 800, you could have a pretty decent computer, from mobo to cpu to graphics card to RAM, I haven't built one in a while, but that seems like a pretty decent price. No software on that though.

Picking a computer by price is like picking a car by price. Just remember that. Some people only need ford escorts to go from A to B just like some people need dells to check their email.
Being a gamer is like being a drag racer. You dont pick the price, you pick the speed and the price follows. ALWAYS remember to build a computer based upon technology and desire, not price. That does not mean always get the fastest, so dont take it that way.

Hey, about that computer thing. I own a company

www.keypcs.com

it's not finished yet, can you sticky this also?

I'll put almost no labor fees on the computer ordered trhu this. have a look thanks!

I have absolutely no clue about computers. I'd really like to know a lot about computers without really taking up any valuable time. Anyone know a website or have anything to help with, pm me.

P.S. What makes a computer run fast? I was told how much hertz you have, but someone else told me that hertz just involves how fast your fan in the computer spins. I'm really confused right now.

Well I can not say that I am uber proud of it, but I have attempted to put just such information on my website. If you are advanced and read it please dont laugh as it was basically intended for people who enevr owned a computer before that took a class i helped teach at a few of my local libraries.

That explains some VERY basics about each component in a computer. Processor is the largest section and most of the others only have a few sentances. I will add more if people have suggestions (keeping in mind that its not technical its for basic users.)

Building your own has many advantages of higher quality and faster components. However, if you don't have a clue, it is all meaningless. Components have to be compatible, the MB bios has to be set up corrrectly, and you have to understand some hardware basics before you begin. Screwing up is going to be costly. I would suggest that if your money is tight and you don't have a clue, to purchase a decent high end big box store name brand and upgrade the memory, power supply and vid card. That would be a great introduction to how a computer is built.

Check out www dot tomshardware dot com for more information on hardware and building or upgrading your own.

Try this site.

I recommend you try out Tom's Hardware, as someone else said.

The processor, and the RAM makes a computer fast. But just because it has a higher gigahertz (GHz) doesn't mean its the most fastest computer. You also have to look at the cache of the processor and the architecture.

Hope that cleared some stuff up for you.

I also build computers as a hobby, and have built a ton! I'd say maybe 50 or more, since the day personal computers came out up until now.

So I can also give suggestions. Though it really depends on what you are building it for.
