Steam gone bad thanks to Norton

Hey guys I wanted ask if any of you had or are having problems playing your steam games? Appearantly my Norton Antiviruse, is blocking DoD Source from running on my system for the reason that it's confusing it as a trojan horse viruse.

After running a full system scan and deleting and re-installing my whole steam file contents, the problem was still present. When ever I run DoD Sourse it promps me with a error window that says "The game is currently unvailable. Please try another time."

I was able to get hold of a technician of the antiviruse company through chat support and they told me the following:

Mr._Abraham_Trejo: As I mentioned before, this problem only accours with the game application trying to run not on the whole system overall.

Jomcy: This seems to be a heuristic detection, possibly due to some updates to Counter Strike Source or to some CS mods. We are in the process of investigating this issue. I suggest you to run a live update in 24-48 hours and then run a full system scan on the computer. If it still detects any infections please contact us back with your case number.

Anyways this kind of sucks for me, for the reason I wanted to lend some of my skills for the scrim that is going down tomorrow. Hopefully this bastardos of norton fix the bug soon cause then I really dont know how to fix the issue. I really dont want to unistall the antiviruse for the reason I just don't want to let the door of my system open for viruses and spyware to come in freely.

If any of you all had this problem please help your parthner in battle try to resolve the issue. Any help and "smartly" advices are welcomed.

Thanks,

It's an easy fix, but can be a little scary. All you have to do is take off the auto-protect. If you can, cancel everything from Norton at the time, and use an alternative Anti-Virus software.

If you don't want Norton to screw with it, and are comfortable enough JUST running what's needed to play DoD:S, then just take off the Auto-Protect. That's all that's needed. Just a little scary..

just disable your auto protect for 15 mins(when you press turn off it'll ask you how long) launch the game and while you are playing it'll be enabled again... dont worry won't shut down the game

Correction: Nortons messing up games AGAIN?!

Ever since I've had problems with it a few years ago never went back. BUt isn't there a way for you to disable Norton for awhile? Or is it that you can't access it because you aren't admin on your computer?

Yes, I had the same exact problem. My dad started freaking out like no other! lol

but ya, what Rom said works fine for me too.

I have had Nortan for 1 year, just a couple days ago my subsciption expired, I unistalled it, after that my game worked perfect, before my game would freeze about 5 times a day.......

Well, norton sucks anyway and bogs down your computer. Why i switched to AVG. But yeah, that sucks man

due to the pm's that i got:

open up norton
go to settings(it will be on norton anti virus not norton protection center)
press the settings button under basic security the first one is auto-protect
click on the auto-protect and press turn off
its gonna come up with a screen which says select the duration and it says 15 minutes leave it like that

just double click and get into the game the norton will activate itself while you're playing and it wont shut your game

norton sucks!!! they say its the best and everything but honestly ive had every version of norton and its just horrible there is always problems with it so i decided to get avg (dunno if u kno what that is but...) and its on my work comp and ive never ever had any problems with viruses or any of that.

i know avg i use avg on my desktop+laptop but my moms laptop has norton thats how i know about the norton thing because every pc in the house has steam
