As many of you know, the HL2 Mod, Insurgency came out last week. Typical of all beta's there's good and bad. I'd say overall it's very good.
Bad? I'm not keen on lack of spawn camping protection. It's also taking me some getting used to not having some kind of aiming point. I like the IS, but not having some kind of aiming point is difficult and I'm sure some have to be putting dots on their monitors, so as it progresses, I think it'll have to come back.
Good? I totally love how you hit what you aim for... This in itself is very big, in my opinion. Couple this with a lack of CoF and the fact that damage is realistic, and I think the Mod has a real chance. Most FPS's now have gun damage muted to the point of almost Final Fantasy levels, where it takes half a clip to bring someone down. It's getting ridiculous, in my opinion. Day of Defeat used to have a strong damage model and I find it unfortunate that they've gone the way of so many other FPS games out there. Playing Insurgency is in some ways similar to the way that Day of Defeat used to be and what took me away from CS. It's a little slower than DoD and movement is at times funkified, but overall it can be an immersive experience and holds a lot of promise.
