Burning Graphics Card

Geist.

I made one post
when i play DoD:S or CS:S and a few other high end games, my graphics card overheats (or so i think)

anybody know of any software tht i can use to see my graphics cards heat level?

What type of video card do you have? Depending on what type of video card you have you may or may not be able to get that information. That is, your video card may not have a temperature sensing diode that will report the temperature of your GPU. However, I have heard of other methods to determine the temperature of a processing unit. I will look into this further.

Well, I just bought this video card cooler from a friend, it goes into a PCI slot under the card, and has 2 high powered fans with speed control, my video card dont overheat, so its kind of useless...but it does look cool ;) ....Im not sure what its called, but look for something with that description I guess

I have an uber leet fan in my PC.

Thank you for your brilliant contribution to this topic.

Similarly, nvidia has their temperatures buried under the "Performance" area on their control panel.

Well its kinda rigged but I was having the same problem with my old 6800 gt so I took the side cover off my tower and have a small desk fan blowing directly onto the mobo and graphics card. Its not pretty but it solved the problem AND it didnt cost anything :)

dont they have overclocking things for ATI cards? im sure you can do something like "underclock" it or something lol. or just try to lower your settings to all the way minimum and gradually toughen it up

dont worry about the heat of it, jus install a better fan in there or put a water cooling system on there, thats what i did and my computer runs so much smoother

I cant think of any software that would cool it down, but you can always clean off the dust from your fans to improve the condition. Everytime I play DOD:s my computer sounds like a monster.

Actually, there is software you can use to cool it down. You can use rivatuner to underclock it.

I'll need more details though to really help you out. Is this a custom machine or a consumer machine? Also, if it is a custom machine, explain the cooling system (you'll want to make sure your fans aren't fighting each other). What graphics card (make/model) do you have?

The most likely course of action is to realign your fans if they are misaligned. Replace the heatsing/fan of the gpu... or if it's not worth it... to replace the card and add more cooling fans. Or alternatively, replacing the case.

If you read about my rig... the graphics card i have actually has a built in fan on it... u should defenitly consider it... otherwise... what kind of case do you have... there are cases where you can install an extra fan for the graphics card... mine has an extra slot but i dont need one...

water cooling or similar fancy cooling systems are expensive, and usually (unless seriously overclocking) not needed.

just add another, or better, case fan or two if you have the room to do so, and you'll probably solve the problem. in my humble opinion anyway.
