CAL CPL DOWN?

UPDATE

From Iceman:

ok on Irc this is what is posted by Beck:

The CAL staff and administration are still locked out of the site and therefore the league is temporarily suspended from operations. THIS GOES FOR ALL GAMES. Intention, motive, reason and future plans are thus far up in the air. As soon as we know anything you guys will be promptly told. Until then we're choosing not to make asses out of ourselves and spout assumptions. so please just bear with us until we have something.

CAL is Cyberathlete Professional League
CPL is Cyberathlete Professional League

UPDATE

From GGL WIRE: It looks like this may be the end of CPL. There has been a lot of people losing a lot of money. For instance, there was ALOT of Saudi money invested in CitiBank and it basically evaporated. It turns out there is ALOT of oil and diminished demand. We do not know who in the EAU bought CPL but they undoubtedly are invested in other areas besides CPL (or if they are only invested in gaming, they really really really like video games).

Sponsors are cash poor. So companies like CPL with budgets and salaries are taking it on the chin. Where as organizations like eGO, whose salaried employees are paid with pride, can take gear in lieu of money.

It looks like the CAL website is down. CAL was recently purchased by a company in the United Arab Emirates on November 14th, 2008.

From a cached page on their website:

Update on CAL's Acquisition
As previously announced, CAL was sold to the newly formed CPL Holdings Group, LTD., of the United Arab Emirates.

A few weeks ago the acquisition was finalized and this weekend we have commenced the process of transferring CAL to new host servers in the United Kingdom. While we are hoping for minimum interruption to CAL operations, it is likely that you will experience downtime while trying to access the CAL website.

Please bear with us as we complete the transfer process to the new owners...

This is interesting at the very least.

Can we get reports from anyone who has forum access to CAL?

I was going to edit my post but I can't(?).

You can basically expect a new CPL to come into play in the near future, and CAL. I just hope they can do a better job than CGL did....

The rumor is, they will be converting the league to a pay-to-play league similar to CEVO.
Right now the CAL Admins are locked out of the site as well, CAL is in limbo.
All of the matches that were supposed to happen last night were put on HOLD.

The news on the site says they are trying to extend it to be more of a worldwide league, They are moving servers to UK, The league will continue this season, It will remain a Free to play league. I am not sure what they are going to do about matches that were cancelled last night, I assume they will all turn into make up matches.

It also looks like the current CAL admins had no idea of this current situation, when the site first went down the official CAL IRC channel had and post regarding news, it said (I for got the real names) John Doe #1 and John Doe #2 are to blame they broke CAL.

... And I hope they don't make it like CEVO. CEVO has its own perks that make it different from CAL, like money, anti-cheat, skill levels.

It's back up, or so it seems. I managed to login just fine to the main site. The forums, however, are still down.

Iceman where did u find out about the season going to continue. We have a scheduled match tonight so we need to figure out if we can play it or not.

Yeah Cooley, I thought October was really strange. October of 2009? That's like a year from when they bought it. A long time to be without email if you own a company.

I am wondering if little ol' eGO is going to have to step up and fill someone's shoes?

Ill try to find out more when i get home.. i hope that this dosent affect my cal match tonight.

New CPL Announces Jobs and Event Plans
The newly acquired CPL, LLC announced today that it intends to move forward on an aggressive time-line with the hiring of its core executive team and the identification and acquisition of technologies and distribution platforms, all leading to a 2009 launch with two international events, including one event in the United States.

In the next 90 days, CPL, LLC will engage a team of industry professionals and is currently seeking to fill positions in Marketing, Business Development, Online Development, and Event Production. Persons with experience in these fields who also have experience endemic to the gaming industry are invited to submit a resume to [email protected]*.

Additionally, CPL, LLC is in negotiations with multiple media and gaming technology properties for either acquisition or partnership. While focus is currently on major media and technology development organizations, the investment group recognizes that the gaming community itself is often the origin for the most advanced competitive gaming technology, and plans to offer a medium through which independently developed technology can be presented for review.

Before the end of 2008, CPL, LLC will announce the details for two large international events to be hosted in 2009. Various game titles across multiple platforms are currently being reviewed for inclusion in these events, with the objective of including both competitive and entertainment titles. That is the info I have found, reading through it they say it will continue to be free to play. They also mention please give time for the switch. I took it as they are just switching owners and they will be continuing the season... Week 4 has disappeared off the schedule. Team standings are still there, Match comms are still there, but It looks like week 4 has been cancelled. This is pretty much my take of what I am seeing from cal's website.
