Why Did MAUL Crash?

Why did we post the Big eGO news? Why did MAUL go down? Why why why?

Well we will tell you why: HostGator decided to cut our webhosting off because we were using too much bandwidth. This is despite having a Professional Account with them. They did not tell us in advance, they did not give any warning, they just turned us off. We asked why and they said something to the effect that we were using more than our fair share of bandwidth.

So, we scrambled around and got another server from SoftLayer and we are going to do our own hosting for MAUL and some other things that keep eGO running like a fine tooled machine.

It took Kendle and Dominion over 9 hours of work to get the server, set up the server, get DB's online, line out each game server with the admin DB.

An all day affair thanks to Host Gator's professional webhosting account. Well, we guess you know you have a big eGO when Host Gator kicks you out!

Not to mention taking up our Advisors, DL's and Council people's time adming servers thru rcon.

Thanks everyone for your hard work!

Like to say thanks to Kendle, Dominion, Advisors, DL's and Council for there continued hard work and dedication to this thing we call eGO. :)

A big BOOOOOO!! to HostGator.

Its nice to see how professional others are , once again we keep the bar high , out-doing everyone else . Good work guys

We didn't really want to advertise that our admin and bans were down in the earlier news posts. Not a good thing to do when you are famous for banning people who are punks.

Hostgator must be pretty happy not having all that activity running though their networks. I mean what business wants to be able to say that they support a very successful and popular costumer that is thriving. That is just bad business sense. When you get a client that is too big kick them to the curve.

I'm glad everything is sorted, thanks to everyone who spent quality time fixing things up. Really unfair of hostgator though, hopefully the new host provides better quality to their customers.

HostGator said:
# UNLIMITED Disk Space
# UNLIMITED Bandwidth
# Host UNLIMITED Websites

I stay away from hosting companies that offer "unlimited" services. They are obviously overselling and will ditch you in your time of need.

good work guys, and a very big thanks from everyone in eGO for all your hard work!!:D
on a graver note, isn't it illegal for HostGator to do that? I'm sure that they have legal liability in this, eGO can sue them for damages, isn't it?

Hey, Hostgator! They offer unlimited bandwidth if I sign up for a hosting plan..

unlimited
un⋅lim⋅it⋅ed
   /ʌnˈlɪmɪtɪd/
–adjective
1. not limited; unrestricted; unconfined: unlimited trade.
2. boundless; infinite; vast: the unlimited skies.
3. without any qualification or exception; unconditional.

Apparently, they have a different definition of "unlimited"....
