i was thinking of getting a quad core and mayby a new mother board i havent really given alot of thought about the mother board what do u guys think ?

i am a huge fan of Asus motherboards and they have never let me down yet. It all depends on what sort of setup you are looking to go for and what chipset you want?

What graphics u want to go for? Single or Dual card setups etc?

And more importantly what is ur price range?

well it has 2 have pc express and and i dont think i need 2 put graphics cards in it cause i have a 8800 OC and thats enough power 4 me

Just a point of fact - nVidia does not make motherboards. They make the chipsets used in motherboards ---> at best, you can get a 'designed by nVidia' certified motherboard that follows their guidelines, but are still in the end another brand.

Also, I will neevr buy another Asus product in my life. The cool thing about Asus is that they win mobo benchmarks hands down all the time, i cant take that away from them. The problem is that 50% of their products neevr have a problem for your whole life - but the other 50% die 6 ways till sunday and twice on christmas. Everyone I know has RMA'd their Asus twice (3 times for me). That's without overclocking or anything. also, even when i find people who like Asus, they admit they are a pain in the rear to configure to be as fast as they benchmark.

Hum people need to learn that if they want to get good meaningful replys on a forum they need to give/ask VERY specifically.

If you dont you will generally get very general answers (most of them consisting of XYZ company fan boys raving about their favorite product - which isnt bad in itself but is hardly the most constructive way to go about doing things)

To get specific about a motherboard you really need to state what u need/want

Examples:
- To fit what processor
- What chipset
- What graphic cards
- how many pci slots
- ide or sata hard drives
- raid setup hard drives
- legacy ports
- gigabit ethernet
- wireless
- number of usb
- COST!

Yes before any1 says it i know my list is way too long and too specific in some circumstances but this sorta info should be posted by the OP in the first post and not take 4 or 5 posts of questioning to get...

Would make giving AND recieving help a whole lot easier lol

AMEN jimb0_d, I thought I was the only one who felt like that.

Edit**** WTF how did that happen? MY original post got reposted after my second post. I just deleted it.

The abit ip-35 pro and intel e6750 e6850 or q6600 is a sick combination.

Check them out on newegg... they get great reviews from actual users.

honestly.... the difference in prices between quad and dual core now are weird... u can get a core 2 extreme, or for half the price get a quad core.. or go all out and get the quad core extreme. BUT, in my opinion, if you're trying to overclock, get the quad or the duo.. but if quad, not less than 2.66. if core duo, then not less than 2.0. Mobo does matter, but as previously stated, Asus is king, EVGA/Nvidia is next up. If youre doing multi thread stuff get quad core, if you just want a "fast PC" get core 2.. reason being, u may use apps that can't take advantage of ure 3rd and 4th core. Also, many games can only see 2 cores... so if you're a run of the mill gamer and don't do rendering then get core 2.. and at that, u can save a lot of $$ by getting an OK one, or, u can say F@!# the money and go all out and get a sick core duo and OC it to death. It depends on what you're doing. I got quad core, but i NEED it when I render in 3d, it saves me hours and hours and hours of time. hit me up.

I disagree Scragg. The problem is that most games are either #1 not made for multi threading, and #2 graphic intensive not CPU intensive. if your graphics card is holding your dual core back, its going to hold your quad core back as well. Take suppreme commander - really CPU intensive, doesnt need much graphcis (other than pixel shader 2.0) and you can really see a difference in Duals vs Quads.

Just read my thing below this... Nvidia is the most reliable mobo ever...

How is the driver support with Vista 64 bit? Just curious.
