drivers..

hey guys its me again. when ever i try to put a CD in to install it such as WoW or War Craft 3 my computer just sits there. i was wondering if it could be that my drivers are not installed cause my computer got rebooted. i dont really know. any body got an answer to my problem?

does your computer register the cds? If it does, if the cd is displayed in my computer for instance just download and use daemon tools, make an image and run the cd like that...worked for me

Yep, I've had this happen before. Try (Very Carefully) checking and/or updating your firmware, and IDE drivers. Also, try rebooting, and enabling the Optical drive to boot after the Hard Disk.

one problem with that......i have no idea how to do that.....

If it was working for longer than a month and then suddenly stoped working its unlickly to be a firmware problem, or even a bios problem (although checking your bios is always a good idea)

If, when you put a cd into your cd drive, you can go to 'my computer' and it says "e:" instead of "e: World of Warcraft" (or whatever the cd name is) and you can right click and "explore" the cd and it gives an error saying no disk is loaded, then your drive has most likely failed and for a meger $20 you can find a cd rom drive online.

If you open my computer and it doesnt even have a letter for your CD drive then it could be a bios issue or even a physical loose cable or something. Lets jump that hurdle if we get there. Just let us know exactly what happens / what error messages you get when you try to "explore" the CD.

oh wow i didnt notice it until now. i dont even have an e: . well this sucks. so how would i fix this? could the drive be called something other then an e:?? my computer says G: H: I: J:.

Yes, I am sorry if you misunderstood - When you go to my computer your drives are labled from a: to z:, however, a: and b: are researved for for floppy / tape drives.

In Windows, the default letter for your hard drive is C:, but it CAN be any other letter too. Every computer is different, and because some computers have several hard drives and several partitions, several CD drives etc it is hard to 'guess' which letter your computer is using.

The chances are pretty good that C: is your hard drive where windows is installed. If you only have one hard drive then D: should be your first CD drive.

For better help, can you please tell us how many hard drives you have.
If you are using partitions on your hard drive.
How many CD drives you are using.
Any other drives you might have such as card readers.
Do you have a C: ? If yes then that should be where windows is installed. If not, then usually the lowest letter (where C: is lower than Z:) is your hard drive where windows is installed. But this rule is not solid only default.

Usually when you are in 'my computer' it lists which drives are hard drives, which are CD drives etc. Just look to see if your CD drive is listed. If you have 2 then see if they are both listed.

i got 2 hard drives C: and D: but my C: holds all my space and stuff. and what are partitions? can u maybe dumb it down for me? im not very computer literate......

1. Open My Computer
2. Resize window so you can see all of the icons
3. Hit the 'Print Screen' (maybe 'Prt Scr') button
4. Open up Paint
5. Edit > Paste
6. Save as a GIF file
7. Go to www.imageshack.us
8. Find picture and upload it
9. Give us one of the links it gives you (it doesn't really matter which one)
10. Tell us how many CD drives you should have

the driver could be broken, mine was and i had to send it back to acer. they changed the driver to a new one. you could try to do the same as me

For futher assistance - take yoohoo advice and send us that link it's much faster and easier than anything else.

For informational purposes:
A hard drive is just a series of platters made out of aluminum that store data similarly to CD's except they use magnetism instead of burning dips like CD's do. Think of your hard drive like a blank book.
You can take notes on any page of the book - but if you want to easily find the information later you need a table of contents. When you format your hard drive (or Dell did for you if you own a dell) the table of contents and a few other things are created and set up.

Now, 95% of people probably have one hard drive, which is formated to have one giant partition: such that a 200GB hard drive will look like 190GB under their C: drive (remember that it looks liek 190 instead of 200 because of the table of contents).
Some people on the other hand (liek myself) will take a 200GB hard drive and set up two or more partitions: C: (80GB) and D: (110GB). Then we will use the C drive for Windows, drivers, applications and use the D drive for our games, music, and backup copies of movies, ISO, and other various adult rated content.
Why would anyone do this you ask? well, because if Windows gets corrupted and needs to be reformated and reinstalled, we do not lose our music, games, or pron when we erase C:. We only erased windows and drivers and junk.

In my case, I have chosen to use 3 250GB hard drives in Raid5 whcih I then partitioned 5 ways. I myself have a partition for Vista, XP, Games, Storage, and Programs. But thsi is neither here nor there.

Stephanjazz=FL= by the way, you did not send your drive back to acer for driver replacement. Drivers are software, but it is possible that they had updated your Firmware, although at the cost of $10 they probably replaced the drive entirely.
