... so I just dealt with the shotgun and the .22s...

most any shotgun (aside from a 410) has more kick than most any rifle....
if you can shoot a 12g-buckshot, or hell even a 20g-buckshot you can handle just about ANY rifle.
ar-15 doesn't have that much kick. we empty an entire clip at work in under 30 seconds..
