You can order all the parts needed to put it together, then take it to a gunsmith. It's legal that way, my friend has an m4 that can shoot two types of bullets at the flip of a switch.

Actually, I don't believe that's true. We are allowed to have them, but you have to go through a thorough FBI background check and pay for a special license to own one. The same goes for owning a silencer.

I bought the upper and lower separately and the guy at the gun shop threw in a couple of items, so overall, it was just over $1250 after taxes. It wound up being cheaper than if I had bough a prebuilt gun and I still got to add a couple of accessories!

No offense, but I highly doubt that's possible. If it is, that's cool, but knowing California, they would have that covered.
