Question about computers

If he is going to be building a nice system he should at least get a modular PSU. They are OMG amazing if you're trying to do any type of cable management.

haha 47k is really good?
isnt the max anyone has gotten around 44k?
lol average is not 17k, more around 10-12k.

When I "view your score online" it said
Me: 13,034
Average: 17k
Fastest: 44-47k or something

Im really shocked that you only got 13k 3dmark06 score though, considering ur system is much better than mine and i still got 15k. I plan on getting a 5850x2 when it comes out or a 5870x2 if they are at a crazy price. Hopefully like $500-$600

I only have one gpu at the moment, need to save my money for xmas gifts for friends. And I'm running stock voltages because I'm not gonna push the i7 running air.

Gonna get water cooling and the second gpu sometime after xmas, then maybe for my bday in february I'll get those SAS drives I was talking about

Well, I was disappointed.. I was hoping to hit 20k+ without OC'ing when I was putting this build together.. Maybe I'll break 20k when I get the second gpu and OC on water

Definitly......you should overclock that 4890 too, they are great overclockers i heard. Well atleast i've seen people get 1000mhz core which is insane just about.

Yeah that's the plan anyways. I don't feel comfortable pushing anything in the case until it's watercooled though. AIR + OC = FAIL

Let's try to stay more on topic, we're not here to compare who's right about how to OC or not (get a room for that). At least concerning the last "productive" post in the thread, I agree that skimping on the PSU would be a mistake, same with really anything in the system IMO. I personally prefer non-modular (can still do cable management), but that is a personal preference. I also recommend single rail PSU's instead of multi-rail depending on what you plan to do with your computer.

skimping on either the motherboard and/or powersupply is a bad, bad thing to do

Nothing is skimping as long as you read reviews on it and it receives great reviews. And usually if it costs $160 which isn't cheap for most of us. We're just lucky they have an $80 rebate for a 1000w PSU that has received good reviews from numerous sites.

We've already answered his questions by the way, he should feel free to ask anymore if he has any left.

i wasnt talking about the powersupply(ies) you guys have mentioned, just stating that you shouldnt buy a cheap-offbrand powersupply or motherboard

ooo alrite...thought u were disagreeing with me or something, my bad.

Yea, generally don't cheap out on that stuff, you will regret it when ur system dies.

Never ever buy a cheap power supply. It's one of the most important aspects of keeping your computer stable and reliable. Also, what everyone else said, just build a new computer. You'll have alot of fun doing it too. Just research some and know what you're getting yourself into first. Not to meantion your motherboard is AGP which is completely outdated. The fastest AGP card out now is slightly slower than a 3870 but costs twice as much.
