Building a Computer & Opinions

I got the Phenom X3 and I can tell you it's awesome. Don't make the same mistake I did though: If you get an AM3 CPU be sure you get an AM3 Motherboard! Not just AM3 Supported! I got an AM2, AM3 Supported, Motherboard and now I'm not getting full potential from my CPU.

Any questions just ask.

So think I'm going with the i7 barebone I posted earlier ( http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4897019&CatId=4149 ), now I just need to determine a video card. The ATI Dark Knight someone posted looks good, but I'd prefer a NVidia equivalent.

Any opinion on a video card?

An ATI 5850 if you can afford it............don't go Nvidia, you'd just be wasting your money on old tech as of right now. Either wait for the new Nvidia cards to come out or get the new ATI cards. Don't invest in old tech unless you really can't afford it. I say go 5850 and up if you can. But watever your budget is man.

Not exactly amazing, the cooler on that one is weak and the 4870 in general isn't completely amazing with all the new cards and stuff out now.

If you really want a 4870, take a look at this one, its an Asus one and has the Dark Knight cooler plus its $140 after MIR+Free shipping.

This is wat i recommend you get in that price range but its your choice.
Sapphire 5770 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102858&cm_re=5770-_-14-102-858-_-Product

The 5770 will overclock a lot better than the 4870 and should put it ahead in benchmarks somewhat. The 4870 does beat the 5770 in about like 2-3 games but after overclocking the 5770, the 5770 should be ahead.

Neither choice is bad but the 5770 is more future proof with DX11 and all that plus better driver support, DX 11 is supposedly gonna start off a lot better than DX 10 and i actually see that happening.

Alrighty, thanks a lot PewPew & everyone else. Now it'll just be a month or so until I can come up with all of the funds.

Thats good, by one month there should be sales and rebates and all for the ATI 5 series and price drops on the ATI 4 series so you could make your final choice then.
