Thank you for openeing this thread, i am currently looking to get a new video card and the one i am wanting to get is BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 260 GTX OC MAXCORE 55 896MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card. I need a new power supply unit for my computer and was wondering what you guys suggest. It requries 525W and two 4-pin and one 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors or two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors. If anyone can help me that would be much appreciated.

Go with a Corsair HX series(650, 750, 850) or an Antec Truepower New Series(650, 750).

Quick question (didn't want to start a new thread)

Isn't the 1 8pin connector for the mobo a break away cable for a P4 connector??

Yes, the "8pin/4pin EPS" should break into a 4 pin for certain motherboards. There are additional 8 pin connectors for video cards as well on that power supply.

That being said, I've never once head a good thing about Xion Power Supplies, and you might want to reconsider the brand you go with.

To the above suggestions: +1

Well it's in his budget. And the reviews are good. He wants to run Crossfire and a good PSU for that price is a 600 watt, which wouldn't do it. Btw, it's my brother, not friend :p

i'm sorry charley but this does't pertain to your thread at all.

shadows what kind of cards is your bro trying to crossfire, unless hes trying to run two 4870 X2's
then a quality PSU that's 600 watts should be fine.

this one is 700 watts and has large 12+ volt rails that would crossfire most cards just fine

also the XION one only has two (2) six pin PCI-e power connecters and two (2) 8 pin ones. make sure that your bro doesnt need four (4) 6 pin PCI-e power connectors (two for each card)

most high end ATi cards use 2 six-pin connectors per card (i.e. 4870,4890.5870,5850, 4870X2,4850X2, etc.)

yes....its depends very much on which cards he will be crossfiring.
Two 4870x2 require around a 1000w PSU, anything else will be around 700-800 watt PSU, some only 600. I recommend 800 though, it will be helpful in the future also.

Im running a 1000w PSU and it was a very good deal, heres the link, it can't be beat for the price, not at all.

Tuniq ripper 1000w, the thing is great and is absolutely amazing for the money. I have no problems with it at all, its 80 Plus bronze certified and TRI-SLI certified. Has received good reviews from websites and you can't really go wrong with it.

Two 4870's like you guys said.

And it does have 4, 6 pins. The 8 pins come with a converter to a 6 pin.

Then your brother will do fine with a 700-800 watt PSU. I think 2x4870 require like 650watt or something. Just check if the PSU has enough connections to work with it.

1000 watts for 2 4870x2's?! I have a PC power and Cooling (Formerly OCZ) 800 watt quad rail and I run 4 5870's in quad crossfire...I have no problems with power whatsoever INCLUDING OC'ing

I've bought Antec and Corsair in the past both 1000 watts, and they've gone on me within 3-6 months. Bought a PCP&C (OCZ) 800 watt quad rail and have had no problems. I will gladly recommend this PSU for ANY system.

On top of it, its modular, a 700 watt quad rail crossfire certified modular CPU for 69.99 after rebate from a GREAT brand, how can you even argue it?
