Borderland Problems

I pre ordered Borderland from steam but I can't seem to be able to play it.

I have tried everything from renaming the registry blog to have steam update to verifying the integrity of the games cache.

I have even gone all the way to re-downloading the game. The problem still persists.

Every time I try to launch the game it downloads.

"Installing: Microsoft VC Redist Package (1 of 1)"

After that pops up another window.

"This game is currently unavailable. Please try back at another time."

I have given up and was hoping one of you guys could help me out... The wait for this game is killing meh. :/

did you preorder as in, perhaps get a 4 pack from someone?
if so, then you need to get through the comfirmation via email, i hear that usually stops people from being able to play.

OK currently it just says that the game in "Unavailable"... What a crock.

I'm at a lost of what to do now... Cheeking the steam forums but that is unhelpful.

It's not my anti virus/firewall. From past experiences with steam and new games I turn those off when first starting a game :/

UPDATE: It now seems to be updating... It seems to be a hefty update so lets see when it is done if I can play. I also started a steam ticket to see if they could help.

Delete clientregistry.blob from your Steam folder in:

X:\Program Files\Steam

or

X:\Program Files\Valve

(Make sure you close Steam and restart it, not sure if you can do it with it open or not)

You know I had a game COH that I brought from Direct to drive and I had so much trouble trying to install it, it just wouldnt work.

I got hold of support and they were at a loss, we tried it on my husbands comp and it started to install without problem. We tried so many things to install it on mine but it just wouldnt initiate.

A couple of days later I had a windows update and I thought just for the hell of it .. I would try to install it.. sure enough.. it did

I dont know if this helps you, but as always having everything up-todate on your comp is always a big plus.

That was the first thing I did. Still no luck

And Buga I think it does have something to do with windows update... My hate for Vista is ever growing... Can't wait till the ship my windows 7 here.

But ya the game is fully loaded. It just will not play. "This game is currently unavailable. Please try again at a later time" is the message that is haunting my dreams....

Edit: Nevermind.

Try to launch from the exe in the game folder. Don't know if it'll help, but it fixed an issue for me before.

Just tried that and it popped up
"Side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more details." Now this is a new one for me... No idea.

this is why i'll never purchase something as a download off the internet

So it seems that alot of people are having the same problem (which I think is the same as mine)

Ok, so I cannot launch this game at all. It tries to install the VC Redistributible Package and fails and then continues to say the game is unavailable and to try later. I have tried looking at other threads and other forums and have done everything I can so far which includes the following:

Restarting Steam
Restarting PC
Redownloading Borderlands
Clearing Game Cache
Verifying Game Files
Manually installing VC Redistributable - note I cannot install the 2008 version it give me an error, I can however install the 2005 version. I looked into this on micorsoft's site and it has been deemed to be application specific. ie. borderlands.
Running a C++ distributable install package
Cursing and Swearing

Nothing has worked so far. The only thing I really have left to do is reinstall Windows but that takes days to do with all the updates.
I have the EXACT same problem. Also a note I'm running vista 64bit

I've done it all except reinstall windows also. I am not going to do so because it takes so long to get it back to where i want it. I am also running Vista 64-bit.

The 2008 VC version seems to be 32 bit only.

Ok, so the problem is with the VC++ redistributable. Are you an admin account on your computer?

Also, try turning off User Account Protection.

Also, make sure you don't have some odd conflict with your virus software that prompts for installation of programs. Also, anything else that prompts for installation confirmation.

I'm running Vista 64bit and it worked for me, just took over 5 mins for the redistributable.

Edit: Kitteh has Borderlands problems too.

OMG made my week. Going to try the UAC off now. Wish me luck :D

UPDATE: No dice on the UAC off. This seems to be effecting alot of people who downloaded off of steam. The fix seems to be for all of them is to reload Windows... WOOOOT WOOOT here comes the refund train...

perhaps try different connection settings with steam. Try changing both the server location and the connection speed, and restart steam. Just a thought.

I know sometimes simply changing the download location for me fixes similar problems.

If that does not work perhaps download, install, and run Ccleaner. And if that still doesnt work, try using different curse words. :P

I am administrator and UAC is disabled.

I've tried different download locations and none of them work.

I think I'm gonna get a refund also.

Found a possible lead on the steam forums, give it a shot...

The VC Redistributible Packages can be found in:
Steam\steamapps\common\borderlands\Prerequisites

vcredist_x64.exe for 64-Bit (2.26MB)
vcredist_x86.exe for 32-Bit (4.02MB)

Try and install it from there.

See what error message it gives if you run one of those. Then you can check out what Microsoft says the error means.
