Borderlands OMG

It unlocks 12:00 or 1:00 PM for me (Mountian Time). Not quite sure. Anyway I'm not going to be able to play right when it unlocks. I have a class that I really need to go to :( 4:00pm-10:00pm is borderlands time though :)

I bought this yesterday for my 360 and I'm really liking it. I played co-op with my brother-in-law and I don't remember how far we got. Then I played Mordecai to level 17.

Loving this. I'm going to play it solo for a little longer before I take it online. So if anyone else has this on the 360 and wants to play, PM me with your gamertag and let's make it happen. I'll take eGO people I don't know over other random people I don't know anyday!

So i've been playing all afternoon... decided to get some solo work done and level every character up to around level 13. Anyway, I realized a few hours ago that the character on the cover art and all the ads and whatnot is actually one of the crazed little Midget people. It cracks me up that he's like the main posterboy, and is so different in the actual game than their Flash animation on their website when it first loads as well as the way he's portrayed in the coverart. But if you look at the proportions of the guy in the cover you can kinda tell that he's not a regularly proportioned person. Kinda funny. I just wish we could quote some of the horrible things said in the game...

So, what does everyone think about Borderlands? Is it a must-have, rent, or pass? Justify your reasoning too, please because I am deciding on this or L4D2 (I can't have both, and both seem very good).

my initial reaction is: it's a fun game, single player is fun, but from what i've read the single player is on the short side.

the multiplayer part...well...do you remember gamespy? yes, that gamespy, the one that's been around forever that no onle likes? that's how multiuplayer is handled. i've been unable to join a multiplayer game so far; i'm sure i'll get it going eventually, but so far it's disappointing. with games like L4D you just open your friends list, see who's playing, and hop on in; in borderlands, you have to create a gamepsy id, find out what your friends gamespy id's are, add them to the borderlands in-game friends list, and even after that you have to know how to port forward so someone can host the whole affair. so far it's a messy disappointing business.

it's like they resurrected a game from the 1990's :(

I would say wait on it. Borderlands is not worth $50, wait until it drops a good $20 or so.

i want to get this right away because i just love the whole aspect of it, and i probably would even prefer the single player (im usually a do it on your own kind of guy) and even better im in canada so apparently the starting price is 40 bucks, except it gets released tomorrow...

Let's answer a few questions. Bear in mind I am playing these on the 360 (my computer's not good enough) but I don't think the answers would be too different if I was on PC

To Kunai,

I'd say this is must-have. The RPGish element in this game makes it a unique experience. The game doesn't feel that short at all. I've only been playing single player so far and I'm having a great time with it. With L4D2 you know what you're getting. I'm not going to get into the politics of what that game should or shouldn't be, but really it's not going to be too much different from the original L4D. So if you absolutely loved that, you'll like the second one. If you're looking for something different that is still tons of fun, get this. Borderlands is the surprise game of the year at this point.

To Hotdog Bill,
It took awhile in the game but I have seen revolver drops. I can't remember how far in I was, but you will get them eventually. They are awesome. It took even longer before I got rocket launchers.

go fight in old have, theres like 6-7 gun chests there too (forget how many off the top of my head) and each guy drops like 1-3 items, a gun shield and grenade mod. plus they respawn. easiest way to find all your oranges and pearls that you need...scavenger mod with + rare items FTW

Didn't feel like it deserved its own thread, and I really wanted to brag, so I dug up the most relevant thread.

One of the quests rewards the player with a launcher called the "Leviathan". You may remember the red text as "It Rises!", or that it was the only grenade launcher (class of weapons with an arching projectile trajectory) in the game. The gun was, believe it or not, named after me. I used to be a huge part of the pre-release official borderlands community, and the developers rewards a few noteworthy users by naming weapons after them.

Just in case it wasn't clear, my name on the forums over there was Leviathan (Well, L3VIATH4N, but you see what I mean), not Dodo.

nope the dodo went extinct too much like the name and the thread.
